Will the cops do anything if someone reports a bookie?

My bookie just calls me and tells me that he may be shutting down as of tomorrow because he has been receiving voicemails from an unknown caller saying that they have all of his information and if he does not stop conducting illegal activity they are reporting him to the police. Im guessing this ghost caller is someone that owes money but do you think that they can actually get him in trouble? And could I get in any trouble for betting with him?

Get fucking real.  Your bookie obviously made up that excuse because he owes a lot of money.  Cops can't do shit.

I would guess the caller is either a wife, or the father of someone who owes money. A small time might shut down for reasons like that. But for a regular book, it's part of the business of collections.

They just can't pop someone just from someone saying he's a book . They would need to catch him with a shit load of slips taking bets ect its called undercover work and that could take years .

wrong if vice gets involved you could have problems. happen to me 10 yrs ago. They were looking for a bigger fish!!! It does not take years if you guys have no clue don't comment!!!

My bookie got fines and 3 yrs formal probation cuz someone rat him out a few years ago.. His sentence was based on his clean record. If someone has criminal history he will definitely do time.

My dad's bookie back in the early 1980's was shut down by the cops and spent some time in prison over it.  Sure it can happen, if something's not legal it's not legal.  Now I'm sure something like this wouldn't be a top priority for law enforcement.

Now a days, cops can't do shit about it.  With offshore PPH accounts, it's almost impossible to have enough real evidence to bust a bookie.

In NYC, vice is the one who goes after books.  If no priors and this is a first bust, you can get a good lawyer and do no time, just probation and fine.  The biggest worry is getting hit with a RICO charge (racketeering and corrupt organization statute).  That elevates the charges to Federal and the sentencing guidelines are stricter.  Not saying that the RICO charge will stick, but it's enough to bump up the bail and will cost you more in legal fees than fines.  But I also know books who have been busted multiple times.  Usually it takes about 6 mos. to launch and execute a warrant.  That's just a rule of thumb.  Hope this helps.

That's old days shit when people were dealing with pen and paper shits.  Now a days when using online offshore PPH sites, Feds can suck a fat dick.  They have no sufficient evidence to bust bookies that's using PPH sites.  If the USA government calls the PPH sites in Costa Rica, they'll tell the USA government to suck a fat dick too.

I'm trying to help someone w/bona fide info. and someone has to contradict it like he's the last word on the matter.  For your info, most books still use pen and paper.  Most books don't have the sophistication to to set up PPH sites.  And just as many would rather not because of the Federal implications.  I use three books, and every one of them is pen and paper.  And these are heavy hitters.  One of them also has PPH, but I don't use anything that can leave a digital footprint.

Once you use PPH even if your are your own book it becomes federal because it crosses state lines.

FYI just do a search and you will find several books who had PPH sites and their own sites who have been busted because of their sites.

 I suggested in the future before you comment on something you obviously know nothing about check your facts.

Those idiots were threatening their deadbeats, so obviously somebody snitched.  That is their own fucking fault for not doing their homework first before taking in a client.  You don't take mother fuckers that are snitches.  So that's their fault.

And those idiots that were caught, they didn't always deal with cash.  They asked their clients to pay off their Las Vegas markers, and pay with credit cards.  Hahaha.  What a dumb ass!  No wonder they got caught!
