Go for it.. i have visited dubai/ abu dhabi on vacation 4 times. Its a really booming country. facinating to see the country build like it is doing now. UAE is a very secular country, so don't worry about it being a muslim country. People are more open about different religions in uae than here in america. If your job is paying well, i'd say go for it. Also, the population there must be 30 percent expats from different countries so alot of the businesses cater to expats. Last thing.....ITS FREKIN' HOT...

If it's an outdoor job, seriously consider not going, as stated above, it's HOT! Money, opportunity is huge out there. Dubai & Abu Dhabi, more Abu Dhabi are spending billions now on expansion (it's the richer of the two cities, not many know). Now that Dubai has expanded, it's time for big brother Abu Dhabi to start expanding.
Know several friends who work their and love it.

I would be working for a school, so I would be working indoors. I seen this whole month is 110-120 degrees. I read 6 months of the year averages around 75, not bad.
FrozenTundra, what jobs do your friends hold over there and do you know what aspects they love about living there?
Metman2103, I have heard alot of americans are moving there, on your visits have you seen alot of americans? I have heard it is white and black americans.

There are alot of americans. White and black. When you go to the mall... it is very interesting to see both western and middle east cultures mixing it up.. I enjoy being around different cultures.. Keep an open mind and enjoy and good luck...

Do they gamble in this cultural-diverse Muslim country? I may want to follow the Cricket team. After all, NFL will come on at 10pm, 1am, and 5am over there. NBA and MLB night games will start at 4am.

I moved to Dubai for a year straight out of University since there IT sector was booming, made very good money there and had house, food and car allowance. Very good experience. Keep in mind I came from Canada, not the USA.
I personally don't know anyone who got into two much trouble except for being picked up for being overly drunk on the streets after clubbing. They were just let go the next day with a fine. It was mostly to get drunks off streets as opposed to actually punishing you. They want the image of a Muslim country. Clubs were amazing, as were beaches, lots of tourist stuff to do.
I couldn't get onto betting sites from my computer there, they were all blocked (used pinnacle and will hill back than), There were bookies, but i only used them for NHL playoffs and a bit on NFL. I got connected with some Brits at my office. They were set up in a condo, and all bets were phoned in, but keep in mind this was 2008.
Other things like Skype were blocked than too, (country owns a monopoly on phone services) Not sure if that has changed as of yet. Getting adult entertainment on your computer is harder too, lots of things are blocked.
Here is something most people don't really talk about, dubai and abu dhabai are small cities. They have a lot of cool, large, expensive infrastructure but they are small. And outside of those two cities (they are an hour apart), all you have is desert. In North America we wanna go somewhere for the weekend? Drive to NY, Montreal, DC, up north, its easy. There, you are flying. Keep that in mind.
It was a great fun year, I didn't really save anything as they are expensive cities but glad I did it.
If you have specific questions let me know.
