I have bought 2 Kias. Not for me, but for family members. One Optima, one Sorento.
All I can say is that they are awesome cars. Nearly 3 years in - not a single problem - and they are both really good looking, functional cars.
I get such good feedback from their owners that I wouldn't hesitate to get one when my kids reach driving age. They are basically at the stage that every car maker you accept went through at one point - people used to laugh at Hondas too. In this case - I am glad I was an early adopter.

Own both a genesis and a sonata. Started with Hyundai 8 years ago when I bought an elantra for our oldest son.
We have been very pleased. Our dealership has taken very good care of us with the 100k 10 year service.
It's hard to get more for your money.

Hyundai has reinvented itself since the early 90s piece of crap cars. My father had a 98 elantra that finally died around 280k a few months ago. No serious problems until around 240. I wish I could have gotten that far on my 01 Honda. Their transmissions and head gaskets went to garbage in the early 2000s. Not sure about now.
I'm noticing a lot of Kia's popping up lately and I like their styling. Not sure if I trust them just yet as they have followed Hyundai's game plan, but don't have as long a track record.
If it's in terms of reliability only, I would get the Hyundai, but I definitely like the look of the new Kia's. The Optima and Forte are nice looking cars.
