Recent $1400 gold price is the highest since 2013.  Current period of increased uncertainty is boosting demand.  For example, trade war between US and China.   Slowing global economy.  Expectation of lower interest rate by US federal reserve in the future.

Gold and real estate were and remained the best investment of money. As for real estate, people need to live somewhere, and gold has always been an asset of the 1st level.
