So why is it when it comes to tennis tournaments they never show how much $$ the participants make.  U see it in golf, if you make the cut, u make $$, and it is pretty well publicized how much the winner gets if he or she wins.  In all the other major sports you know how much each players contract is, but in tennis i have never seen the tournament purse..  Maybe it's just me.  Anyone else feel this way??

Interestingly, the women earn the same amount as the men in the US Open. Golf has a much larger disparity in its purses.

You do make an interesting point. If you go to https://www.atpworldtour.com/ it will give you total prize money for each tournament but it is tough to find a breakdown for how much is earned as a player goes through the tournament.

I noticed that, I know obviously u can look up this info on line, what i was getting at is, during a golf tournament u will see the purse for the tournament on TV, and many times what the top 2 or 3 where gonna take home.  Unless I miss it I never see the tournament purse for a tennis tourney on TV, nor do they mention what the winner is gonna take home.  That's all I was getting at..

good call out. i would think it has to do with the rather posh nature of the image tennis tries to project. they want to act like tennis is a gentleman's game and no one would be concerned with something so tawdry as money....except all the players losing matches to get some extra cash...

This wasn't always the case. I read it started in 1973.

The case can be made that womens tennis is more entertaining, thus they should be making more than their counterparts.
