Well we already have NFL Network, MLB Network, and NBA TV which are all pretty good alternatives to ESPN, not to mention the highlight shows on Fox Sports Net, but hey Ill give it a look.
The more I listen to Trent Dilfer the more I despise him.

I only watch NHL, NFL and MLB network for my highlights and analysis. Never turn on ESPN except for a live game

I remember having to watch the "George Michaels sports machine" late Sunday night to try to get some highlights/scores from NFL games (before ESPN got in full swing)..........local news was crap for sports.
I'm not gonna wave a flag for ESPN but it's interesting to see/hear people bash them so much (some of it deserved nowadays) w/o realizing what they did for sports on TV..........we were lucky to see 2 cfb games on Saturdays..........tape-delayed NBA playoffs........World Series games in the middle of a work day.........lotta weird stuff back then.
thorpe.............always remember the WWOS shot of Nadia Cominiches' smiling red face as she bent her body backwards on the balance beam..........along with the ski jump wipe-out.

Hell, being on the east coast you wouldn't get some west coast scores till a couple of days later. Too late for the next days paper so had to wait another day.
Mugg, they just stopped the sports machine only a year or so ago. I can't believe it lasted that long.

Better than ESPN is having a huge satellite dish in the early 80s or late 70s. That's what bars had, and some people had them in their home. I think they were pretty expensive but my neighbor had one. My neighbor was a big hockey fan and he watched a million games on his dish.

A bar in my town had a dish but the owner/staff had little knowledge of its capabilities. They let me play with it.......I was able to get games on it they never dreamed of. Only problem was the broadcasts shifted channels all the time. An NBA team on a homestand would be on Satcom3 -18 one night then Galaxy1-14 the next. Still, it was always fun searching through all the chans.

I remember trying to follow the Flyers/Canadiens conference finals series while I was in law school. We found some bar who would put it on, but we always had to find the game itself. Because those feeds were basically raw, you'd occassionally hear an announcer say "how about that last fucking hit!" during a commercial break. It was great.
