But its pointless, if you hadn't found what you were looking for, you would have asked someone in the store before you were in the line for x number of mins waiting to checkout.
And if this is just a pleasantry, lets think of another or do we even need it, the cashier is already obliged to comment when you buy that special, "ooh that's the best sauce, I love that with xxx etc"
That sounds delightful! Here's my usual checkout "experiences":
1. Stone faced, slack jawed, open mouthed "zombie" that doesn't say a word.
2. Young cashier talking incessantly to even younger box boy/girl about some guy/girl that their either mad at, or madly in love with. Meanwhile, I'm trying to fit in a word in edgewise about how that price on that item you just scanned wasn't the price on the shelf tag.
3. "Foreigner" (fill in whatever nationality here) that doesn't speak a word of English, but yet somehow made it to checker dealing with the public at friggin' Albertsons.
4. Either a girl that's midway "transforming" to a guy, or same person / vice versa, either way, I don't know if I say, "Thank you, Sir", or "Thank you, ma'am".
5. Cashier on the register phone and trying to get the attention of a courtesy clerk to "go and check on XYZ for this person".... Ummmm, excuse me...... I'm the paying customer that's here in the fukking checkout line! Let's attend to me first, and not the lazy A$$HOLE on the phone!!
6. And finally - "Marge" or "Mildred", or whoever that has the name badge that says "Proudly serving you since 1967", Yet they still lock up the register, or a coupon throws them, and they have to call a manager..... And you wait..... And wait...... For Christs' Sake!! You've been doing the same job day in and day out for 50 years now!! Why is there a problem every fukking time I come in here!!
So......
A decent looking person doing their job correctly and with a great attitude asking me if I found everything O.K.??
Would be like Heaven.......
