I am going back and fourth with my flood insurance company about how much I think I should get and how much they think I should get....They did take care of me last year when i had flood damage so I know they are going to do the right thing again.......
It just baffles me that they called me yesterday and tols me that they can send me an advanced payment right now for x amount of money. I told them that I did not need money right now to fix my house, why because I want total replacement value of my insurance money. That being said it looks like this is going to be a long and drawn out process. So I guess I will have to wait and see what happens in the next 60 days. If you or anyone you know that is going through this my best advice to give to you or them is.
Hire a couple of contractors to come into your home and tell them you want a print out of what it will cost to fix the damage that SANDY made to you home. This way when the insurance company comes back with a price and you are not completely happy with it you can explain to them that you have proof on how much this work is going to cost. A good friend of mine that lost his entire house gave me this advice. So goodluck if you are going through anything like myself..
