Mysterio's hurricanrana looks like it wa botched and then it looks like the guy took a nasty spill to the floor (but we can't see it).
The guy looks a bit dazed when he gets back in the ring but the actual dropkick from ray hits more of his lat area.
Although we can't see the entire thing. He may have caught him in the temple.
But the actual dropkick doesn't tell the entire story. Looks pretty innocuous (but still, it's a poor angle).

Thanks for that excellent video. El Hijo looked very energetic, had NO trouble getting back in the ring, and the drop kick initially did not look that bad. So I watched the replay multiple times, and it is obvious to me that the drop kick landed squarely in his temple, and basically killed him on the spot.
That's the only thing I can figure (the temple kick) but I just don't see it at that angle.
Again, it is a bad angle and why else would he go completely limp?
Mysterio is one of the all-time seasoned wrestlers and it appeared El Hijo was in position for the dropkick so if Rey botched that kick to the temple...wow....the result was death.
And before the world goes after this federation for finishing the match and event, the WWE finished the Owen Heart death PPV after they wheeled him to the back, basically dead.
The show must go on?...come on. Someone died in the ring. Call the event and disperse the crowd and start dealing with the fallout.
Highly unlikely its fake. Stories on espn, cnn, yahoo, fox news unless you believe the national media reports false stories to us. He was in an unatural position. It was just a freak accident that happens sometimes.
Rey, while true, has wrestled for a long time was known as a stiff worker. Someone not easy to do matches with. Even though small at 5"8 and 180 pounds his kicks were not polished. He broke the undertaker (Mark Calloway) nose in a match. He injured other wrestlers while in wwe and also failed there wwe wellness program drug checks twice in 2009 and 2012 and was suspended both times the second time i believe for a year. He was one of those wrestlers Vince wasn't that sad to see go. His better days were probably in wcw cruiserweight division and long before he joined wwe.
