Anyone ever donate a kidney?

I'm in process of donating mine to a friend and just wondering if anyone has done this and what their experience was..

I'm have my blood pressure monitored for 2 weeks and if all is good then its on me to choose a date to go forward with it..

I had one other friend say to me what if one of ur kids needs one later on in life? that made me think a little more about it..

Very unselfish, there should be more people like you.  I am sure that isn't as big of a deal as it seems.  You will probably have to change your lifestyle somewhat, be more careful, shit like that.

As far as the comments about "what if your kids need one later in life...",

What if they don't?  Help out where you can NOW and take care of the "down the road" shit later.

My hats off to you, we should all be so lucky to have a pal as generous as you.

Worst case I'm getting to see if I'm healthy or not...

But 11 family members tested and only 2 matched and weren't healthy enough so we've known each other since 2nd grade and decided to see if i was a match and bam!! I was very weird..

So I'm waiting back on my blood pressure stuff and if all is good then I can set a date ...

I haver not, but my wife did. Her best friend was born with diabetes. A number of years ago they moved to Sacramento. We live in Cleveland. Because of her Diabetes she developed Kidney disease wich shut down one kidney and the other was operating at about 40% and failing. Her brother, daughter, son, and husband all tested but none were compatable.

My wife flew out to San Franacisco and and went through a battery of tests. Came back home and had to be monitored (blood pressure) for a number of weeks. Turned out she was completely compatable.

Without a second thought she setup the donation process. We too talk about "what would happen down the line...." but nobody can predict the future. The present is that matters aand for my wife her friend from childhood at best would be on Dialysys, at worst would die. It didn't take much thought to reach the right decision.

I applaude you and wish more of us would be like yourself and my wife.

Nobody wants any of my organs ...................

One of my best friends did for his uncle, I went to visit him (although he did it for the money....which he blew less then two months after the operation)

There is a period from Day #3 to about Day #7 after the op that are the most excruciating.  They obviously take you off the good stuff for medical reasons after Day #2 and that's when the not-so-fun aspects begin.

But I mean he is back to normal now, and everything has grown back where it should.  The only real drawback is like the 8-10 inch scar he has.

wow, i would like to believe i would have no problem doing what it is you are concidering doing for a friend (or anyone for that matter), what an enormous decision to make, they say there is no greater gift to give than that of life, you are to be comended, heaven holds a special place for guys like you, good for you man...better for your friend....as for me, i need to seek positive reinforcment to lend a friend 100 bucks
