Is this a good idea?.....trip to vegas in September

I'm gonna get the Phil Steele and make power ratings in June and head to vegas in early Sept with $4,200 and live out of a cheap hotel until the 2017 Final Four and then come home.

Good or bad idea?

$700 a month should be plenty to live on and still have a good bankroll.  I don't see any problems.    You can probably get a cheap hotel for 500 a month.

You could live out of your car and have more money for gambling.


I'd bet that you do better than CollegeGambler.   Hard to do worse

if a recession coming like the media is saying, u might be living like a king.

waitress are extremely moody during recessions and will give u the stinkeye. and food quality will be all time low. bring the diarrhea meds

this is an extremely "bad idea"  first of all, there are NO "cheap hotel" rooms in metro LV. second, what about transportation? or are you driving your own car? third, you have to eat, and restaurants like hotel rooms are not cheap..(first and foremost you must come to the understanding Vegas is not by any means a cheap city) fourth, and most likely the most important, you must WIN, it's mandatory in your behalf, one losing week will send you packing, your expenditure will eat you alive, $4,200? that's basically 'chump-change' by Vegas's standards of living on a budget,  and you believe  your going to hang for 7 months on your betting Bankroll? do you truly believe your going to WIN 65% of your wagers? Alternative measure: get on a plane bring your $4200 stay 3 days, make your bets, go home....a winner, (or a loser) comeback when your ready....

thorpe, in all due respect," $700 a month should be plenty to live on" you clearly are not intuned on the realities of living in Las Vegas...simply put, $700 a month will get you absolutely nowhere, unless your intention is based on living in your car..btw, there are no $500 a month rooms/apts even the E. Fremont St sewer district charges $150 wk for a studio, or if you're lucky you may score a sleeping room out on Boulder Highway for $175 wk....like I said, "Vegas is not a cheap city to live in or visit"

why would anyone come to Vegas and live like a dog just so they could bet sports for 7 months?

You can get plenty of monthly rate rooms on the North end of the Strip motels for 500-700 a month.Some of these rooms come with kitchen and cable and maid.There are numerous resturants that are competing with casinos that have cheaper buffets.Most hotel buffets are higher-end and there are still grocery stores and chain resturants with deals like you find in your hometown.You are living on the Strip and you can walk or take the bus to anywhere if no car.If you are walking on the Strip,you are walking on the most police monitored street in all of LasVegas.
If you want to live on the cheap,there was a flop-house about 3 blocks South off Fremont that charged $55 a week with shared bath and you had to take everything of value with you in the morning because there were other keys to your room in circulation.If you didn't mind the Walking Dead you could catch all your meals at St Vincents if you weren't rowdy.
Good Luck,if you might imagine I did what you are contemplating and I never was sitting prettier in Phat City the whole time I was there.

nothing like planning a trip to Vegas..staying at a $55 wk flop house, sharing a toilet & shower, and eating your meals at St Vincents perpetual mission of God for the homeless.. enjoy your stay

On a forum for degenerates the best thing you can do is offer options and suggestions.During the All-Star break I took a Greyhound to LasVegas and stayed at this flophouse for a couple weeks.By the time the World Series rolled around,I was living on the Strip,hadn't been mugged and bet 25k on the winner.Life is what you make it so strippersandbens should stay in his cubicle?
There's cheap and then there's homeless and I'm not the judge but he might like to hear some options from someone a doer and not just a talker.

$700.00 isnt enough to live off in a month, that goes for most places, not just Vegas. Food? Transportation? Medical? Phone bill? etc.. need to take those into account.

Three years ago, I was visiting a friend who was staying at Manor Suites, which is on Las Vegas Blvd. It is about 8 minutes south of The Strip. It is conveniently located, just a few minutes south of the airport and right next to the outlet mall.

It runs right along the bus line and South Point is about 7 minutes south of it. My buddy got it because he had poor credit and he could go month to month. It was a decent place, with the typical characters that go with Las Vegas.

One bedroom furnished was $815 a month. That included all utilities and free basic cable with HBO.

See if you qualify for any debt consolidation loans. If you have debt and decent credit you may be able to make it rain out there. Worse comes to worse book a flight and live abroad

If you're gonna live in your car, I would at least wait until November when it's finally not still 100 degrees @ midnight......

Why the Strip. Whats the other part of Vegas called by the jail. Is it old Vegas? My friend had a studio about a block from that jail and it was cheap. Easy walking to all the casinos. Place was not that glitzy, all the cocktail waitress where in the Union. So it was common to see all these old gals wearing the sexy costumes, but that was not sexy. But still lots of Casinos and they remodeled the whole place about 15 years ago. 

Any input from you guys that live in Vegas? Been about 15 years since I been there.

About 17+% of revenue from the big hotel/casinos is from gambling. 
Think about other services that can be far more profitable. 
California, like a lot of CA guys in the thread...been there 1,000 x.

can you explain this further? ive always wanted to just book a flight and live abroad. but dont i need a visa to stay long? and isnt it impossible for an american to get a citizenship in a foreign country?

Go to Venezuelan, You are rich whit 4.200$ You can live 2 or 3 years so good in Margarita Island!
