ESPN will lay off more than 100 employees after Thanksgiving, according to a Sports Illustrated report Thursday, affecting talent all over the company, from front-facing TV personalities to technology staffers.
A particular target of this round of layoffs will be “SportsCenter,”
once a tentpole hit that has become increasingly irrelevant and
increasingly less frequent. On-air talent will be laid off from the
program, SI reported.
The triple-digit number represents an escalation from the first report that outlined ESPN’s coming troubles, as Sporting News reported Oct. 28 that 40 to 60 members of the Worldwide Leader workforce would be laid off.
As traditional TV becomes less a staple of the household and with
ESPN tied up in exorbitant contracts to air live sports events, the
network has seen declining gains, and multiple rounds of layoffs.
The previous chapter came in late April, when ESPN dumped about 100 workers, forward-facing talent included. Now, it’s deja vu.
“Queasy” was how one anchor termed what ESPN employees are feeling, according to SI.
In April, ESPN reportedly did not like to use the word “downsizing,”
but rather the cringeworthy euphemism “right-sizing,” saying the network
was seeking optimal efficiency. It seems that happy medium is still
elusive.
They refused to hire and Christian-oriented sports people, even when
they are only calling sports and not their beliefs on the air. What
goes around comes around. Karma!

I look forward to ESPN's demise... After pulling the decades old scam of currently extorting $7+ from every cable or satellite subscriber, it's about time they get a little payback.... Good luck paying $1B for MNF after the contract is up. Cord cutting is the in thing currently, I just relieved myself of $177 a month to DirecTV after being a 17-year customer. If it was 1905 AT&T bought the last company that made buggy whips.
Who's having a worse year ESPN or the NFL?

I agree.. We live in a specialized society for some time now..
ESPN immersed themselves in basketball, beach vollyball, and politics.. The people running that network should be fired along with their political and phony analytical front line jokesters....
Yep, I think it's all ABC Disney, who also decided to cancel Conservative-based sitcom "Last Man Standing" even though it was the network's 2nd highest sitcom. It didn't fit their Liberal BS agenda.
I can't stand either network and I have no reason to watch ESPN. Stupid that they dropped the NHL and invested so heavy in the NBA and NFL.
You better believe that both ESPN and ABC are weighing down the value of Disney's stock; both were responsible for their poor quarterly earnings released last week.
Phuck ESPN.

also the atlanta braves are moving out of the ESPN orlando Fla spring training stadium. Thats hurting ESPNs brand and name as well as the bottomline. Remember when ESPN resturants were a big deal. Then they got rid of them. Man how times have changed.

Whats the chances that disney sells ESPN ? Sounds like the next logical conclusion so the big mouse AKA disneys mickey can get out of the current contracts its in with the NFL and the NBA and college football. Then ESPN would be scrapped altogether and someone like FS1 or time warner would buy it.
