Never had this happened before!!!!!!!! Have You?

So I got a court case pending  March 8th to be precise. Had a Lawyer I know very well representing me, Paid in full nonetheless! SOB  died!!!!!
I know I can get a continuance but Im wondering about how the F" I get my cash back? Probate and wills take time but Im SMFH right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. I know lawyers will do anything to take your money but that guy was motivated.

I'm sure your state BAR can sort that out and get you your money back asap.

He had no partners?  One man stand?  He's at least got a secretary.  She should have been instructed where to direct his clients.  Can't believe he wouldn't have some contingency plans in effect.

Yes Goose he had Partners! Hints the word Had!  Let me elaborate here a little more. I have known this Lawyer for 12 years  He was in his 70's and was brilliant Law Genius and represented me a few times with an acquittal, a dismissed charge, and a slap on the wrist. But  he went Solo 5 years ago! This was a Cash transaction my friend which is how I do most of my transactions.

Thread title misleading, gets a 4.5 out of 10...tops.

Id say you are probably screwed. Chalk it up to bad luck. Get a younger lawyer and some sort of receipt book...maybe a pen, although any lawyer worth his salt should have a pen handy.

Exactly Einstein !!!!!!! Unexpected death and I knew him for 12 years not just representing me but on a personal level, did work for him and his wife over the years. Heavy Boozers and she died 5 years ago !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 I guess the lesson learned here is to not pay someone up front, before services are rendered.

Barney would likely have advised you as well before you paid him, to first make sure he nipped the problem in the bud.

Let me ask a few questions

Who handles his estate, thats your first stop to get reimbursed.

Next up is postpone the March 8th date yourself and find another lawyer. 

March 8th. 2018? If so, he must have filed something on your behalf. That's a record and he is on it. Or is this just traffic court crap?. Also, he must have documents and notes. It's the Estate's Attorney to figure out who's owed and who is bs.

What are the charges? He may have filed some paperwork already pre-court. If so, I would contact his estate.

1 more thing. Even if you had a receipt you wouldn't just get your money (retainer) back by asking. Its tied up in the Estate.

It would take a Lawyer to get you money back and cost probably twice the retainer you lost chalk this one up on the lost column get another attorney to represent you in the probate court case you have pending and get a receipt for the transaction....
