In Swarthmore Pa. visiting my daughter and 2 grandsons. She moved from Philly to the burbs finally. Being a drivers ed teacher all my life my daughter can parallel park any car in the Fairmont section of Philadelphia . Now in Swarthmore she has her own driveway in her suburbs. When I used to visit her here in Philly would walk down to " Little Petes" for breakfast every morning and eat with a few philly policemen, delivery guys and locals up early and walk over to the Rocky statue a block away. So this morning wake up at 6.00am and go over to Antonio's in Swarthmore buy the NY Post and NY Daily News for breakfast while everyone in her house is still sleeping.
And then the locals come in. A few older guys wearing Eagle and Phillie shirts and hats . These 4 guys are talking about the Phillie game last night. I'm eating at a table by myself just listening to them One of them says " Turner who we paid millions for and can't get a hit got a standing ovation last night" I started laughing to myself because I didn't watch the game. They are killing the Phillies and their losses . I'm just enjoying the side show and again laughing to myself . Being a Phillie fan all my life and living in NY and now Texas I never ever get to hear Phillie fans talk or complain. Except at " Petes" last year when I visited. One says something about defense and Turner or who ever plays shortstop . One says Bowa was the only Phillie that could play defense. I now say something from my table " how about Bobby Wine" " They all turn around and start laughing and ask me " where did you come from" ? I explain I am a new Yorker but big time Phillie fan. They all are very nice and laughing and questioning my loyalty being a New Yorker. I tell them about myself and carry a Richie allen Baseball card in my wallet. Now the whole table of guys are all laughing at me when I show them the card. We talk about the Phillies and they realize I'm just a fan as they are. They say goodbye and all leave . I go to pay my bill of 2 eggs coffee and bacon and the lady at the register says "your bill was already paid for" I left a tip and had no chance to thank them . So had breakfast with the boys this morning and we had something in common . Never even had a chance to talk Eagles- NY Giants because there would be no way they would buy me breakfast Nice way to spend a morning with the " Boys"

I'm about 25 miles south of Philly and love the Eagles, Phillies and Flyers (but I'm a diehard Orioles fan 1st). That's exactly how Philly fans are and they are especially passionate about the Eagles. My son attended Philadelphia Art School and I can relate to your story. The parking is God awful on the best of days and the meter police are everywhere. Sports, politics and traffic is Philly. Great story, I have a few from there but nothing good haha.

sportchat being from the Hudson valley and teaching there for over 40 years then retiring in Austin ,Texas is a little of cultural shock but did 4 years at North Texas but got a teaching job in NY right after I graduated . I am a diehard NY fan in all sports except baseball. I used to flip baseball cards and the guys with the red P's were my favorite flippers. . Swarthmore is south of philly and I do miss the Fairmont section where my daughter lived since she married and moved to Philly. But having breakfast with the boys was really nice since they don't know me and I don't know them Of course the common denominator is being a Phillie fan And it great hearing them complain and upset about the Phillies. In Texas all I hear about via the radio and newspapers is the Texas Longhorns Dallas Cowboys Houston texans Spurs etc. I have become a Longhorn fan somewhat have season tickets to Texas St football and basketball . I want to cheer for the Spurs but to much of a Knick fan . I'm happy for my daughter that she and her family moved from Philly. But I taught her to parallel park and there were times in Philly where I had to switch with her because I could not fit her car into the space. Her 1st week in Swarthmore she called me and said she went to Wawa to buy butter only because she had a driveway to park when she got home she didn't need butter. Think you can relate to that if you live in a city. Anyway going tomorrow morning to the same place and if those guys are there I will treat them Unless I wear my NY Giant t-shirt. I hate the eagles .. Your Orioles are looking good You had the best defensive player ever to play baseball in Brooks at 3rd. As much as I love Mike Schmidt and his defense no one ever played 3rd like Brooks Robinson .. I always wanted to go to Camden Yards Its on my bucket list . you take care and I;m cheering for your Orioles this year. good luck
