If you are over 35 then the ideas posted above are good. If you are under 35, then I think you are capable of jumping right into the jogging/ not so much walking routine. You'd be surprised what you can accomplish when you jog a minute, walk a minute for thirty minutes.
If you aren't afraid to hop in the pool, swimming is hands down THE best low-impact exercise you can do to transform yourself in a hurry.
