Derek was unarmed and wearing only a pair of shorts when he answered a door knock at 6:30 AM. It was the DEA, and they felt the need to shoot him in the face. He had some weed in his house.

If someone knocks on my door at 6:30 AM, I'm going to be quite hostile and ask them WTF they are doing there. I'll be unarmed and likely be wearing a pair of shorts like this guy.
This is how the overwhelming majority of homeowners who are male will react, with or without weed in their home.
How in the hell are cops unprepared for that and the first order of business is to shoot first, ask questions later?????

Events like this have happened before, and they will again, as long as we have prohibition. For the life of me, I can't figure out how or why this stuff is tolerated. I mean, it's bad enough that these laws exist, but then we have events like this where people are wrongly executed for doing nothing.
How about we stop going to peoples' houses with 5-10 armed officers ready to shoot and kill? How about we put another system in place so that innocent people don't die?
About 500 years ago people used to burn women at the stake because they were believed to be witches. In reality, it doesn't seem like we've made too much progress as a human race.
