You are telling me not one cop of 4 couldn't come up behind, or at a minimum, ambush a man in a wheelchair and restrain him?
He can't stand!
It has to be a faceoff of 4 on one, all with drawn weapons.
Where is the rational for that? You are not going to be 'trained' to have a face off with a man in a wheel chair so this doesn't come down to training per se. It comes down to spontaneous decision making. And when I say spontaneous, I do not mean 'seconds' as many try to make it out to be. This was more than seconds. How about the initial call of ('man in a wheelchair'). Come in with a different plan!!
In an attempt to handle the situation differently, how do you not come at this man from a different angle??? He can't get up from a chair! Surround him. Surprise him. Rush him. YES there is always a chance for injury or loss of life (however large or small) of a cop in EVERY potentially violent confrontation.
And there is also a 99.999% chance of a life if 4 armed cops face off against a man in a wheelchair, armed or not.
Why handle it that way?
