A few months ago I asked this forum what new car should I get out of a few choices. The consensus was an Altima. So on Halloween I purchased a new 2012 Altima 2.5 SL. I am satisfied, thank you!
Present:
3 weeks have gone by and I still have my paper license plate.
So today I recieve a call from the dealership and I am expecting them to tell me my license plate is in. That is not the case. They ask me if I can bring the car in because they screwed up the VIN number and now the DMV and the FINANCE COMPANY have the wrong VIN#.
So I am thinking this sounds like I have a free brand new car because it is in my possession and no one can claim it because no one knows the VIN#.
However, I am not a criminal and I feel I am very blessed to have been financed for this car. So I told them I would bring it in tomorrow.
After all, if I worked for the dealership I would of drove to the residence or job where the car would be parked and take a picture of the VIN# with out contacting the owner.
Anyways, my question to all of you is, when I bring the car in tomorrow should I ask for some perks since I was honest and brought the car back in, instead of running and trying to get a free car out of this ordeal? If so, what should I ask for?
Free oil changes, tune-ups, balance/rotate tires, inside/outside/armor-all tires carwash, XM radio, all for life! Maybe throw in some fog lamps too!
Suggestions are welcome!!!

Not sure, but I would call them and ask before bringing the car in. Once your there they will get the vin#.
But, I wouldn't expect too much.
I thought about that too, I will probably park the car at an adjacent dealership, and try to get what I can get in writing and then bring the car over.

Dish, this is a common mistake made by car dealerships. They have a million copies of the vin#. It wouldn't be hard for them to put it together.
The same kind of thing happened to me. It was supposed to come with the plate, registration and inspection sticker. I had to go back and sit in line for a hour and a half waiting for my sticker on a Saturday because the salesman made a mistake.

If not, then you might want to get a friend to steal that car from you.
They get a brand new car with an untracked VIN, so they can sell it for top dollar. You get a new car from the insurance company.
I just checked the contract VIN# and the car VIN#, they match, so I dont understand why they need me. I am atleast going to try and get a full tank of gas as an incoinvenince fee.

That's gratuity for you.
I'd make a big stink about it, had I'd been in your shoes. Either that or they just lost a customer.

People make mistakes. You make mistakes. Why make them suffer for it, would you want that if you did this? Why do people think they deserve anything if someone makes a mistake? Especially a small one lie this? What has happened to our values? What a bunch of spoiled brats. Do the right thing. Take it back, accept nothing. Take the high road. Be man, be someone people respect. You will go much further, and feel better about yourself. Have a soul. GL
