To sum it all up, the ongoing, agonizing, greased-pocket liberal AND conservative garbage just doesn't want to wave a white flag in favor of the inevitable legalization of sports betting.  Not sure who paid Shipp to reject this time, but I don't argue it blew in from the desert.  I highly doubt his brother being a soon-to-be assistant coach in the NFL made this a conflict of interest.  His pocket was getting fatter and fatter during the debate.  That was the only elephant in the room.

The parallels to prohibition have been, are, and will continue to be the uncanny parallel to the prohibition era.  Both black eyes on our gov't no doubt.  Will be a laughing matter for entertainment purposes of a future audience in the topical portrayal of an HBO series decades later.

It's the exact same thing with weed and sports gambling.  Chickensh*t politicians are afraid to change anything.  Their sacred cows are from a bygone era, and the only way anything will get changed is by direct action of the people.

Sportsbetting is legal in Canada but there is so much juice it is not worth betting.  I'd rather have it the way it is now than to have legal sportsbetting with -135 juice and you have to do parlays.

If they made it legal and said the maximum juice on a bet was -105, then sign me up.

Well, I was referring to voter referendums, but yes, take it to the streets too.  We should be picketing on the sidewalks outside of our state capitols.

The Sheldon Adelsons (Sands Casino Corp) of the world are winning the battle simply because the Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United that rich people can spend as much as they want, legally to buy influence in elections. 

Adelson doesn't want to see legalized competition so he pays off the likes of Senator Lindsey Graham and  Congressman Jacob Chaffetz to support his cause. 

Sure poker could be legalized and bring in billions annually to the tax coffers but why do something sensible when these two can get paid to write a bill opposing such a thing. 

It's about the money. It's ALWAYS about the money.

this guy gets it.  this is no different from prostitution--which should also remain illegal, seedy, and dangerous

Its interesting how there are certain groups of people in america that advocate for more rights and freedoms for its citizens while there are other groups of people that are hell bent on limiting, stripping and taking away rights and freedoms from it's citizens... 

doing so as elected officials and using the tax payer's money to devote time, money and resource on their agenda...

And then you see commercials for BetAmerica and it's perfectly legal because it's "fantasy".  

Makes total sense that only some gambling is legal.  This country is great at making laws prohibiting things that hurt nobody.

I should say that I realize that it's not just this country.  It's almost anywhere as far as I know.  Or maybe it's not... I don't really know.  Is online gambling legal in Europe?  Russia?  Asia?  I have no idea.

The revolution starts in Covers, on this very thread!  I put on that goofy V for Vandetta mask and I'm holding up a betting ticket that has LSU -10 scratched out and replaced with the word FREEDOM!

No more bait and switch at the hotel and now I'm stuck in an uncomfortable position, when all I wanted to do was have a half hour with the real "bombshell brunette with DD's."

No more will the Western Union clerk ask me, "is that Eduardo Garcia Valendez with a Z or an S."  

I will stand up for my right to be a degenerate lump of s**t in these proud United States of America.  LEGALLY.

The US is 50 years behind Australia and Britain when it comes to gambling. You cannot go an hour watching TV in Australia without seeing at least 10 commercials from legal sports books there.

Not to mention that you can walk into virtually any bar in Oz and place a legal bet with the country's biggest legal sports book. Even better is that due to serious competition the sports book that has the licence to offer point of sales gambling in bars charges only -110 each side as opposed to -120 15 years ago.

If only it were that easy in the US ( and everywhere else for that matter ).

Canada has more freedom than the United States. Unlike Americans, Canadians aren't banned from gambling at most online sportbooks in the world.  Canadians have more options beside sports gambling provided by government.
