Maybe, but you better bring something to the table like a skilled trade or a track record of success in this country.

Most don’t just take any dumb dick off the boat like the good ole US of A

As a war vet, I might fit in nicely in Costa Rica. But I have a lot of good memories from Canada so that’s where I’m going first.

Don't blame you. Belong where your most comfortable and your fondest memories draw you.

I gave my Dad my word I stick around this ice would till he passed. Now it seems after a year I am just hanging around .

The cold is enough for most anyone who had a mind and no commitments chose the right path and got as far from here as they could.

I feeling it time for me to go and find somewhere I feel welcome and make new memories.

I need to do a little work gather money get my license back and clear counselling. But I can rap that up in a few months.

Then I am good to go.  Nepal my first choice is entering another civil war. Last thing I need to be is sometimes family fight so I started to research where do the ex Patriots end up.... The list was the top ten places American refugees migrate .

I was fortunate to be able to spend a few years in Vancouver, BC.

It was a nice gig - great salary, fun work (sports writing/editing) good people. Very cool city.

But, even though I brought a unique skill set (not as a writer, but because of my background/work experience), I got the boot after my second year as immigration said, "We're cutting down on US citizens taking jobs from Canadians." (My Mexican nextdoor neighbor back in Vegas thought it was hilarious when I told him I was deported. "Now you know how we feel," he said. I thought that was a funny line.)

The lawyers from the company that recruited me fought it, but to no avail. So while you may wish to retire to another country, it isn't always easy to do. But if you are thinking Canada, and can get in, I highly recommend Vancouver.

I always wave back at the little Amazon guy. I feel like it's the courteous thing to do.

    @VeritasAlways

Vancouver, like Seattle & Portland, used to be a really cool city. It may not have suffered the political destruction that the latter two have, but it's still not the same city it was years ago. I guess you could say that about any major city, but still. The PNW is beautiful, aesthetically, there's no doubting that.

I have a buddy that hails from the Toronto area. He has been here for about 10-12 years & goes back a couple times a year to visit family. I asked him if he considers going back & he answers an emphatic "NO". I guess the politics & taxes up there aren't that great either.

    Mugg,

I was there > 10 years ago, so likely has changed, hopefully not that much. I was in Yaletown for half the stay (was okay, lots of fine dining but kind of yuppie) then spent the second half in Kits on W 4th St, (much more down to earth, a block from the ocean, bars, food joints all within walking distance. Saw Orcas, seals and bald eagles, pretty cool.) Walking along Davie St was always a fun adventure, like a sight-seeing nature tour.

I've been to Seattle for a couple of weeks, I liked Pikes but not much else about the city. That was years ago too, I wouldn't want any part of it these days.

I have a buddy from England, sounds similar to your friend from Toronto. He used to make a yearly visits, stopped 3-4 years ago, said he doesn't even recognize it anymore. Way of the world, I guess.

I always wave back at the little Amazon guy. I feel like it's the courteous thing to do.

Why search? Is it travel restricted do to covid?

Not that I am heading to the Alps any more than any other Glacier. If I want to see an ice covered mountain I can always just go skiing at sugarloaf...

True eastern hard pack here. Granulated ice ...
