I remember consulting with some of my friends about taking Bama that year. I wanted to unload on them as the line danced around 10 points, just like this line. They kept warning me, "Don't sleep on ND's defense! They'll keep it close and that spread will come into play!" The result. Notre Dame was ripped limb from limb. Why? Their D folded that day on the grandest of all stages and also, they had no real playmakers.
Well guess what, that is what Temple is. Forget the numbers. Forget the rankings. Forget the pts per game and yards given up per game. Just take a step back and look at Temple. What do you see? A legitimate defense, that has faced more than half of its season against nobodies, padding its stats...and no real playmakers that will scare you.
And folks, here we have the grandest of all stages. Because this is Temple's National Championship. You go to 8-0 after beating Notre Dame, you are rocketing up the National Rankings and people are taking you seriously.
In fact, they are already being taken seriously. College Gameday, the biggest TV spectacle on a College Football weekend will be set up at this game. Who would have thought it! Well I'm here to tell you Temple is going to lay an egg bigger than Pterodactyl's, just like Notre Dame did vs. Bama.
One of my two losses this year came fading Temple last week against ECU.
Folks ECU covered virtually the entire game up until 5 minutes and then they themselves folded like a cheap suit on sale at Men's Wearhouse. Temple isn't gonna like the way it looks after this game. And it was the fault of ECU because of terrible coaching, special teams breakdowns (2 blocked punts) and they themselves had a lack of playmakers.
ECU isn't a wart on ND's fanny. And ECU was laying 3 that game. Now we have to lay 10.5? And we get Notre Dame to replace ECU? And we get Brian Kelly to replace....what's his name? And we get DeShone Kizer instead of Blake Kemp (I'd rather have Shawn Kemp and Blake Griffin throwing my passes). And we get CJ Prosise instead of Chris Hairston? And we get the history and tradition and everything else that this offense is (the defense is nothing to right home about). And it costs us -7.5 on the line from -3 to -10.5??? Where do I sign?? I'm licking the tip of this goose feather quill.
"But Scal, this game is AT Temple..."
SILENCE! You really think Lincoln Financial Field provides a home field advantage for Temple? Come on. This is a team that has been losing for DECADES and only now has jumped out to an undefeated season due to an EXTREMELY favorable schedule and now the fans will show up? And that's meaningful. That's going to intimidate Notre Dame??? I'll tell you who will show up, at least 25% will be ND fans. Maybe more. You'll hear the ND fans roar when ND scores (and they will score enough to cover). Do you know how demoralizing that is to the home team when that happens (it happens to the Nets regularly and the player's are quite vocal about it)?
Folks, look at the schedules. Even forget home and away. Just look at quality. One team is wearing diapers and the other is wearing big boy pants.
Temple: Penn State, Cincy, UMass, Charlotte, Tulane, UCF, ECU. I broke this down in detail in the ECU thread. I don't have to do it again. The ONLY challenging games are the first and last and I'll throw in the second. And ND would run wild on all three of those teams.
ND schedule: Texas, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Navy, USC.
