Basically the chance has fallen to me to go for the first time ever in my life, I'll be there June 1st to June 5th...arriving Friday night, and leaving the following Tuesday night. I'll be staying at the Fremont Hotel & Casino. I'm going with family and will be rooming with them...however pretty much the only time I'll see them I think is during dinner. Other than that, I'll be on my own...as they tend to just stay at the "tables" as they call them.
Does the Fremont have a sportsbook? I've always wanted to see one of those and of course I'll probably play a few games lol.
What is there to do in the area?
As far as gambling, I don't know how to play craps...so that's out. A friend has tried to teach me before, but honestly I don't get it...and it didn't seem very appealing. I'm sure I'll play a few hands of blackjack...maybe try the slot machines...just to experience it, but I really don't see myself being very much glued to any of those things.
Can anyone recommend any "must see" things in the area? Any bars or clubs I should definitely check out? Haha, any red light district????
Of course I'll be looking to check out any good eating places, so definitely would appreciate any cuisine advice.

The Freemont is downtown, it's classic and more like old Vegas, yes it has a sportsbook. I love downtown because everything is a few steps away, just don't go off Freemont street to the Gold spike or El Cortez (if they are still there) because shit get's shady real quick.
Do your gambling downtown then take a cab to the strip at night and check out the bigger casinos.
For eating it depends on how much you want to spend. The bigger casinos on the strip have really good top dollar restaurants. I'm pretty sure the best buffet in town is still the Rio, you have to take a cab there.

I'm not trying to scare you but heed the advice given here about leaving the Freemont area on foot. I had a buddy get mugged like one block away from Freemont Street, he wasn't alone either. Really freaky shit but it happened.
The Freemont Street experience is, as Apache said, an awesome thing to view. If you have intentions on staying downtown I pretty much expect you are going to end up at the Golden Nugget. It's the only 5 start hotel on Freemont and it is nice. It has a great pool area, casino floor, and a decent sports book from what I remember(my Vegas memories are fuzzy at best even though I go there frequently....fuckin' booze). I think the Poker Room is decent there as well if I remember right. Also the Nugget shows all the big time PPV fights(boxing). I don't know if there are any fights that weekend but I have watched a few PPV fights there for free(Pac-man and Mayweather fights).
Since this is your first time I would highly recommend taking a cab to the Bellagio or Caesars or even the City Center and walking around there for a bit just to see more of Vegas. You can buy a bottle and mixer or a 12 pack of beer and just walk around with no problems. The cab fare from Downtown to mid-strip is a little pricey but if you are able to split it with someone else it won't be so bad.
Salty is right too, the hookers will be hounding you if you are find yourself out late enough.....and you will be out late enough. Just remember to wrap it up if you partake.

I was surprised that the guy next to me at MGM explained the basics and was pretty cool about it. I haven't looked back since, and craps is by far my favorite thing to do in a casino. Don't play poker downtown, you'll get taken for all your money. If you play, head to the strip where more tourists play.

One of the best high-end steakhouses I've been to! Like Ktrain said, I would definitely go to the strip and check out all the big hotels. If you don't, you're missing so much. You could really spend a whole day just walking and drinking, while checking out all the massive casinos. Vegas is an amazing place. Haven't been in about 18 months and been itching to go. Have fun!

Go to harrahs during the day, they usually have an outdoor bar and some live music. There are also cheap casinos surrounding it for some cheap gambling action. Eat at Margaritaville and have a few drinks.....
