Actually at least down here its big business. I saw a news blurb about the local company who runs it all, Waste Management and they have a pretty huge facility for recycling..and they are quite explicit about what is and isnt ok to recycle..they have people sorting it all and WM sells the different products like paper, plastic and companies purchase it to turn back into raw plastic or paper pulp and reuse it..at a cost lower than new..

So WM makes a buck off it, the companies buying get it for less than new...makes sense to me.

Yea. I do not see the down side. Like anything it is not perfect, I guess. And I am sure there are some counter arguments as search points out but at the end of the day I am going to recycle.

Pretty easy to keep a separate bin in your kitchen for recyclables and then empty that into a separate recycling trash can for pickup (at least that is how it works in the city I live in). Literally no extra effort and if it helps even a little then I will do my part.

Not sure nationwide but a lot depends on where you live.

I remember reading some nutso stuff about Montgomery County, Maryland.....if your neighbor complains about you smoking in your house you can't do it anymore or get fined......snd it gets better......the recycling crates have chips in them to track you and if you don't put them out you get fined.

Makes me wonder about people there who go to a recycling place on their own - still have to put out the crates?

I don&#x27;t recycle. I never have and I never will. Dig more holes and bury the garbage. The only people that make money off recycling are the trash companies and they make more than they deserve to already.I do like the colored recycling bins though. They&#x27;re great for storage.

I recycle at least 50% of the items which are recyclable. What Republic Services/Seaboard  does with it after that is not my concern. I save money by buying fewer trash bags.

Yeah, the last time i recycled water bottles and 7-UP/Sprite cans, etc. the recycle money paid two 20 oz. whole grain bread and one 32 ozjar of strawberry preserves.
