Horrible story . Mans best friend? . Bottom line you are responsible for your dog. I don't get the attraction of owning a Pit Bull ( or a 6ft boa constrictor ) as a house pet , or that " Pit bulls get a bad rap " IMO.

A lot of dog owners are completely blinded by their dog's behavior. They actually believe that Spot is a well behaved dog even though he snarls, barks and is generally aggressive towards other dogs and humans.
I see it all the time. Unfortunately Pits tend to attract those types of personalities.

Anyone that harms an animal, gets no slack from me. Treat them like you'd treat yourself.
I wouldn't mind at all chaining up some useless human refuse to a post on a chain in freezing weather..........................
.....................here's your cup of food, I'll get your water if I get around to it.............
8 dogs? Yeah, one bowl shouldn't start too many fights......
I cannot watch certain shows on Animal Planet or those Sarah McLachlan commercials................that haunting voice................those sad, pathetic, creatures............I honestly have to change the channel it makes me so sad/mad

That situation is the owner's fault of course, if you treat your baby dog with love, kindness and respect they'll do the same to you forever and the people around, unless someone messes with him. But even then they will be careful. I have a lot of dogs which were mistreated and I took them out of the streets, they are lovely and never attacked anybody.

I admittedly don't know specifically about the Pitbull breed but I do know about rescuing dogs. We have rescued three Rottweilers. The first two were vicious. Raised as fighters. They were going to be put down because nobody could handle these aggressive animals. Was very happy to give them both long lives. Both died, in my arms, of heart attacks My third Rottweiler rescue is now three years old and doing extremely well. Saved him from a broken family (divorce) where he grew up as a puppy with two children. Major is a totally different personality than my other two Rotties. I can trust him with ANYBODY. He absolutely will not bite.
It all depends on how they are raised as a puppy. If you understand this, and the "Alpha" concept, you know it is true .
Bottom line, If you do not have the time, and I'm talking about 24/7 here, to devote then don't try to be an owner of special breeds.

I adopted a 6 month old pitt mix and had my reservations bc of the bad rep the breed gets but i can honestly say it was one of the sweetest dogs I've ever had. It's all about how the owner raises it. Any dog could be a "bad dog" if trained to be one.
