Who pays the bills in your household?

I am the one who always pays the bills and controls the cash flow in our household.  But Wifey just pissed me off to no end.  She wrote a $400 check and "forgot to tell me"  that it would be cashed on the 4th of the month.  How do you forget about $400?

Now, I always try to keep a couple hundred extra in the checking account for emergencies.  Shit happens.  At no time, however, do I transfer funds into checking to sit for no specific reason.

Now I have a $400 check that bounced and will get whacked a $35 fee on top of it.  There is a reason that I handle the bills in my household.  It's because my Wifey is an idiot.

Jesus H. Christ this pisses me off.

Haha yeah I can see that happening. I'm in a situation where I have an account, the girl has an account and then we have a split account for house bills and fixed stuff. Seems to be working well so far...

We both sit down before the month begins and write a budget using all of our money. Its really nice to be on the same page about money and spending.

I end up writing all the checks and paying on the bills but there are no surprises from either one of us.

You might try calling the bank(if this is the first time you have had a check bounce) and ask if they will waive the fee and convince them it will NEVER happen again. Phone call would be worth your 35$ IMO.

    It's good to vent.

Why not keep more in the checking account?  It's not like your cash earns much interest.  Keep an extra 5k in there at all times and what will it cost you in taxable interest?  50 bucks, if that?  It'd worth it to not have to mess around or worry about a check bouncing.

    I was joking

I'm lucky if I have 25 dollars in my checking come payday.....I would think more people than not, are like me (and I earn a decent wage).......I was laughing at the suggestion to keep 5k in your checking account, because I'm assuming that's not possible for most

As for the actual topic, My wife and I have different accounts, and then one joint savings.....therefore, it isn't possible to darn each other up in any way.........she pays most of the bills.....I just give her money every pay for my share of the bills and savings committment

Now, I always try to keep a couple hundred extra in the checking account for emergencies.  garbage happens.

Glad I'm not the only feeling like this. I pay everything through online bill pay. She has one small credit card I pay off of their website. She really has no idea how everything adds up. She has written a few checks numerous times without telling me. My checking is mainly for bills only, who paycheck goes to a separate account that were not supposed to touch.

Talk about aggravating. This girl needs 50.00 a day to live off of it seems. I took away her debit card. So she justs goes into the bank. It's $20 one day then she takes out $60 the next, then $300. I really can't take it much longer. She makes good money but this is ridiculous. Then she takes the debit card and will spend $67 at CVS on nothing.

Friggin hair is $200 a month then pedicures and garbage. She has no clue what she is spending and it will ultimately be the end of us...

I would kill myself if I had to pay bills every month my wife does that secretary garbage. As far as not keeping it in your checking account I understand, but Every bank has overdraft protection where they just take it out of your savings if it gets overdrawn. No need for a 35 fee ever. I would be pissed as well. Tell her she owes you a threesome with a 6ft Russian blonde.

dude, this is the source of just about all my stress.  i allocate a certain amount in the checking account each month (more than i think we need) and expect that there's some left at the end of the month when it is time for another deposit.  every fuckin month it's a struggle.  i could live off just about any budget but the wife can't seem to handle a pretty nice budget.  chicks don't understand money.  my wife comes from a rich family so she really doesn't understand a budget.  i'd pay good money if someone could teach that garbage to her.
