Will the Olympics take place later this year?

Apparently they're meeting tomorrow to decide on what to do

Couple of things could happen 

1. Vaccinate all athletes,coaches,officials and related staff coming into Tokyo in the months leading up to event 

possibly do this for fans as well to attend the events or else everything behind closed doors

2. Reduce the sheer numbers of athletes travelling to the games  by 86'ing a lot of sports that shouldn't be there  namely golf,soccer,baseball,softball,rugby7's,surfing,skateboarding,triathlon  

I've got shitloads of smaller events to eliminate from the traditional Olympic sports but I'll only draw the wrath of the IOC if I start mentioning them    

Also everyone would have be covid free coming into Japan reduced schedule or not 

3. postpone AGAIN until 2022 when everything 'should' be back to normal

Tokyo(CNN)Reports of this summer's Tokyo Olympic Games being canceled due to Covid-19 are "categorically untrue", the International Olympic Committee said in a statement to CNN on Friday.

The Japanese government also said on Friday that it is determined the Games will go ahead following an unconfirmed report that a cancellation might be imminent.

On Friday, the Times of London, citing an unnamed senior member of the ruling coalition, reported that Japanese authorities had privately concluded that the Olympics could not proceed due to the ongoing pandemic. CNN has not independently verified this report, which officials have refuted

If japan pulls the plug.

Florida has welcomed the games here in the USA.

MIAMI – Florida’s chief financial officer on Monday told the International Olympic Committee that the state would be happy to host the Olympics Games amid speculation that current host Japan may back out.

Jimmy Patronis sent a letter to Thomas Bach, the head of the IOC, “to encourage you to consider relocating the 2021 Olympics from Tokyo, Japan to the United States of America, and more specifically to Florida.”

“With media reports of leaders in Japan ‘privately’ concluding that they are too concerned about the pandemic for the 2021 Olympics to take place, there is still time to deploy a site selection team to Florida,” he said.

The letter, signed by Patronis and posted online, cited the supposed strength of state’s vaccination rollout, its economic reopening and sports events it has hosted during the pandemic, as well as the fact that its theme parks, including Disney World, are open for business.

But Florida has struggled badly during the coronavirus pandemic, with over 25,000 deaths so far in the state as the U.S. death toll nears 420,000.

“Whatever precautions are required let’s figure it out and get it done,” Patronis said.

Last Friday, parties responsible for organizing the Tokyo Games — scheduled for last July but delayed one year because of the global health crisis — insisted they would be sticking to the planned dates of July 23-Aug. 8.

“I am determined to realize a safe and secure Tokyo Games as proof that mankind will have overcome the virus,” said Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

And if Miami can't serve as a venue.

Obama and Chicago has already petitioned to have the games in Chicago.

President Obama personally appealed to IOC members for the 2016 summer Olympic Games to be in Chicago.

But despite their efforts, the Obamas will come home empty-handed as Chicago's dreams of hosting the Games evaporated in the first round.

The news stunned those awaiting the announcement, many of whom thought the battle was between Chicago, Illinois, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rio also beat out Madrid, Spain, and Tokyo, Japan, to host the games.

Although the White House says the trip was the right thing to do, some Republicans say it will have some consequences for the president.

"Other than people who like to cheer, 'We're No. 4! We're No. 4!' I don't know how this is anything but really embarrassing," Republican strategist Rich Galen said, adding that Obama's failed pitch will probably be the joke on Capitol Hill for weeks to come.

"Given the last two months starting with the August recess and all of the issues that surrounded that, I think that the White House staff, the senior staff needs to get together somewhere and figure out how they are going to fix this, because they are in a deep slump," he said.

Upon returning to the White House on Friday, Obama expressed no regret about his trip, saying it is "always a worthwhile endeavor to promote and boost the United States."

"One of the things that I think is most valuable about sports is that you can play a great game and still not win," the president said. "Although I wish that we had come back with better news from Copenhagen, I could not be prouder of my hometown of Chicago."

White House senior adviser David Axelrod said that although the results were "disappointing," Obama did the best he could.

I guess it depends on the pandemic situation not only in Japan and in the whole world. As we can see officials don't afraid to carry over big events(for example we can compare it with the football Europe Championship).It another case they can change the format of the Olympic Games(we can compare with CL or with any local championship). 

The Euros are easier to stage although they were meant to be held last year over 13 different countries ranging from Ireland to Azerbaijan.This summer if they can't have fans travelling between those countries and attending games UEFA can easily do what they did for the the Champions League & Europa league last season by having the tournament in Germany or Portugal behind closed doors.

Also look at this years Australian Open in tennis, most of the players who have arrived are confined to their hotel room and have to practice in their rooms Imagine that  with 11,000 Olympians 

Japan is exploring if all athletes must be vaccinated before arrival in Tokyo. American Kate Hall is out due to injury.
