1st Saturday Racing of the New Year

Crappy weather across the country with small fields at the BIGA, rain & slop at Gulfstream around 2 PM but Oaklawn looks OK. I have a number of stable plays running today.

GP Race 7 #8 American Diamond and #2 Ruse

Fairgrounds Race 5 #10 Kazillion

Plenty of 3 year old racing which should make for an interesting afternoon. In Race 5 @ Gulfstream jockey Maikel Bravo (no relation to Joe Bravo) will ride for the 1st time on #1 Earth for trainer Herbert Miller. Earth is a 9 year old & was the beaten favorite running a well bet 3rd in his last.

Trainer Fausto Gutierrez has #7 Steeler Mischief in Race 10 @ GP who was rank & steadied twice in his last but gets a huge jockey upgrade from Ruiz to Irad. The fact that Irad gets on this guy will be seen at the tote board.

Racing starts around noon & I'll add some plays as the day goes along. Feel sorry for the people visiting Florida because the weather has been shitty & a cool 68 degrees.

GP Race 1 DD 2 with 1-4-8-9-10

Paco on #2 got his break racing at Calder for trainers like Eddie Plesa Whose wife happens to own this filly.

I think Race 2 is wide open in a tough MSW.

Paco took #2 On the Dot right out of the gate & rode him to the wire to win by about 3. He's been getting good mounts at Gulfstream which surprises me a little bit. He's as dangerous as Irad on the track.

Nice to be alive in the double albeit with the chalk in the 1st. 

Race 2 should be very interesting & I just realized I left the chalk #2 with Javier out of my doubles.

DD 2-8 Paid $27.40. I'll take it

Jose Ortiz sat pretty on #8 & was able to outlast a closing Castellano on #2.

BTW..the wife of a trainer owning the horse as in the 1st race isn't a bad angle to consider.

BTW...Oaklawn is muddy & not OK as I noted earlier.

Damn...the #4 @ OAK ran 2nd & couldn't get passed the winner #5.

Torres looked good at the top of the stretch on #4 but the winner was all heart.

Zayas missed the break on #8 @ GP & lost all chance as the chalk.

Race 5 @ AQ #4 Rob the Bank is racing as 1st time gelding but I'll play a 2/567 tri key.

So of course, the 1st time gelding wins easily @ 7/2.
