BELMONT COMMENTS & PICKS

Short and Sweet…..

• Tapit Shoes…..Lightly raced with good potential out of four-time Belmont winner, Tapit. Could mess things up on the front end, but don’t think he has a shot.

• Tapit Trice….Bad-mouthed by some for his Derby, but he won four straight going into that race. I’m not tossing his Derby, but he was bumped, pushed and prodded; back 18 then 15L, yet rallied for seventh. He could have given up, but didn’t.

• Arcangelo…..A real good one, but a tad behind these in class? Two in a row coming in and backers shouldn’t be afraid.

• National Treasure….Won Preakness, but you’d think he was coming out of a $10K claimer from some of the comments. Much of it has to do with disdain for Baffert. He controls his own destiny.

• Il Miracolo…..Out of Gun Runner, but with top Beyer of 77, I ain’t seeing it.

• Forte…..Who shows up today? The 2-year old champ or the guy who hasn’t raced in 10 weeks. Two comments: It’s Todd and, to quote Mike Beer, “still the leader of this division until someone beats him on the track.”

• Hit Show…..The Upsetter in line to run his race. Cannot dismiss for any reason.

• Angel of Empire….A great horse, but, sorry, I’m a trend follower, even though trends have bitten me in the A$$ the past few years. No Penn bred has won since 1891. Won’t dismiss, but won’t play to win.

• Red Route One….I had so much promise for him in the Preakness, but he appears to be a .265 hitter compared to many of these .300 hitters. If he gets the pace? If the stalkers falter? If the Queen had a nut sack, she’s be the King.

 Great.....I haven't been there since they renovated the place, but drove past there a few weeks ago and it looks great. There are a lot of good shows, so we'll go. Dead & Company invading my Wrigleyville neighborhood last night and tonight. It's like 1967 around here.

All right guys-all good stuff but I think Angel blows by them in the stretch. 20-20 win place on Angel of Empire.
