Saratoga - Race 2
#4 MICROBIOME (5/2 ml)
2yo firster for Tom Amoss comes into this race having worked a couple of times with CARTEL QUEEN, who is entered in the G3 Schuylerville Stakes today. In fact, MICROBIOME looked very impressive while out-working CARTEL QUEEN in their most recent drill over the local surface. Looks very much like the one to beat.
I should also mention EVERYONELOVESLINDA (20/1 ml), who brought $105K (35 x the sire's stud fee) at the April OBS after tying for the fastest furlong (10.0) at the April 14 under-tack show. Would expect that one to be involved early at the very least.
Saratoga - Race 5
#6 SOLASTA (4/1 ml)
2yo firster for Englehart has been working almost exclusively with older 3yo's, most notably working 3 times with IAINTFRAIDANOGHOST, who won by 4 lengths at Aqueduct on Feb. 28. SOLASTA also appeared to outwork an unraced barnmate from the gate in what would be her only drill with a fellow 2yo. Suspect this one is live here.
The horse to beat is clearly the Brad Cox trainee LADY SCARLET (5/2 ml), who pressed the frontrunning winner TIZPLENTY through fast fractions in her Churchill Downs debut. That race was significantly faster than the other maiden race on the card (won by COOL PAPA G). Also worth noting that TIZPLENTY returned to press a fast pace in the Debutante Stakes (before finishing 4th) in her following start. Seems very likely to make the lead here, and could be tough to catch.
Also of note is the Mott trainee OUTFOXED (10/1 ml), who brought $360K at the April OBS after working a quarter in 20.4 (one tick off the day's best)). OUTFOXED also worked with first-out Belmont winner HIGH OAK back in late May. She later appeared to outwork an unraced barnmate from the gate. Could be live here with Mott's go-to rider Alvarado in the irons.
