Gulfstream is always a tough & can be profitable track at this time of the year. Tons of well bred young horses & shippers with barns of 5 or 6 are on the grounds. I'm keeping my eye Shug McGaughey at this meet & he has one running tomorrow in the 9th race.
If you're ever in South Florida, you have to have Breakfast at the Track. You get to watch some workouts, visit the stables & meet owners/trainers/jockeys. I met trainer Kelly Breen at this thing & he's a really cool dude. Love the hats he wears at the track. He's a dapper looking guy. You get a breakfast like a Comfort Suites variety; it's nothing special but it puts food in your belly. It's over by 10:30, so you have to kill 2 hours before post time. There's a casino onsite but it does impact your pocket most of the time.
Friday afternoon sitting around the walking ring is where I choose to be & that's where I met Rick Pitino. He autographed my program & he shared a horse he owned racing that day that he was hoping it got claimed. He must have told everyone because the horse got hammered down to 4-5 & won by daylight. The cool part was I wheeled the exacta & it paid $122.
Sounds like I'm shilling for Gulfstream but I'm not. The seats I mentioned above are normally free but on Pegasus Day. Stronach is charging $225 for a seat. Up in the Ten Palms restaurant are normally about $75 per person. Nah, nah, not on Pegasus Day....how about $589 per person & if you want a table near the finish line try paying $1300 per person.
Anyway, it's a great day.

All 3 ran well today..
Gulfstream Race 6 #6 Smooth Flyin Mike ML 5-1 (a scratch makes this a 5 horse field) (ran 2nd paid $4.60/$3.60)
."""""""""""""""""""7 #6 I'm a Sure Thing ML 8-1 (went off @ 13-1 but got caught late for 2nd. Paid $4.60)
"""""""""""""""""""9 #3 Ramsey Pond ML 3-1 (ran a strong 2nd but couldn't catch the winner. Paid $3.60/$2.60)
Nice to see the stable is producing. Just need a couple of winners instead of 2nds & 3rds.
