No opinion yet, but if you were ever going to bet against A/P this is your chance. He will be 1/9 because no one will want to bet against him. Edge/Jordan have a look. Edge's last race was too awful to be true and Jordan won over the track last out. Again A/P towers over the field, but you can't bet him to win.

I think I read that someone else bought his stud rights, but whoever paid for that right should immediately fire whoever worked out that deal for them because they stand to lose a lot of money.
Being the first triple crown winner since 1978, and with the mythical reputation that comes with that, A/P should command incredible stud fees. But, if he continues racing, his status has no where to go but down...not to mention that he risks injury.
If A/P suddenly loses a couple races, that may well put a huge dent in that mystical shroud of near perfection that currently surrounds A/P.

Again, A/P should win by open lengths, but there will be so much "sentimental" money in him that it's impossible to make a win wager. I think C/E is the wild card if he gets an easy lead. Pletcher seems confident.
Top, they bought those stud rights before the Belmont. They are golden no matter what happens the rest if the year.

Coolmore brought the breeding rights. I don't think they have a choice in the matter whether to retire now. The deal would've been done on the condition AP would've been allowed to race on this year to the BC Classic. He's the favourite for the BC Classic and if he wins the Haskell, should be smooth sailing til then. He will have lost nothing even if he is beaten in the classic. Bottom line: to prove his superiority he has to take on his elders. He's a Triple Crown winner and it's a win win situation for them given Shared Belief is out.
In recent years, they've lost Montjeu and I think High Chapparal (stood in Oz) and with chef de races, Galileo and Giant Causeway both getting older, they've been a bit desperate in recent years. They tried to make War Front (USA) and Fastnet Rock (Australia) commercially attractive to European breeders but really, they're the only ones breeding from those two. Pour Moi, Camelot, Ruler of the World and Australia are their last four Derby winners and their achievements on the track pales into comparison to the aforementioned greats Galileo and Giant Causeway.
Australia is probably the best of the lot by Galileo and a name US fans will be familiar with: Ouija Board. Even with Australia, they shirked challenges with him and he was beaten by the Grey Gatsby who's good but no superstar.
They have changed their MO in recent years forgoing a possible Champion Juvenile campaign for the possibility of a great Classic year. They have not had a great Derby horse for long while now. Golden Horn is this year's winner and he is very good and likely to be retired to stud at the end of the season. The recent superstars of the track Sea the Stars plus Frankel and Kingman will all soon have their own progencies so the threat to Coolmore's long enduring global domination is very real especially with Qatari money adding to the ever enduring presence of Shiekh Mohammed's Godolphin team.
Dubawi has also been very prominent in recent years as well as Juddmonte's Dansili. Those are the top sires along with Galileo. Sea The Stars made a great start to his career as well as the unheralded Dark Angel and if Frankel and Kingman, both Juddmonte sires prove chef de race calibres as well as Golden horn, Coolmore are in trouble in Europe once Galileo goes. They NEED American Pharoah to fly the flag for their operation if that's the case alongside Galileo replacing the sadly departed Montjeu.

Wow. One of the best posts I've ever seen in any forum on any subject.
And your point is taken...I think you clearly state how much was involved in the decision and how many complex factors had to be considered.
Still, I stand by my original statement. If I own the breeding rights, he doesn't race. But I don't, so...
Again, excellent post. It gave me a lot to think about. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
