From today&#x27;s edition of The Paulick Report:&#xD;&#xA;Pletcher said it was &#x201C;just typical baby stuff&#x201D; that prevented Materiality from starting as a 2-year-old.&#xD;&#xA;&#x201C;Steve (Young) purchased him at the Timonium sale last year. &#x2026; he&#x2019;s a highly touted, highly recruited kind of horse with a big-time pedigree and good-looking. He breezed well there (at sale), Steve bought him and they decided to give him a little time at WinStar. He came to us when we first got down to Palm Beach Downs last fall and really hasn&#x2019;t missed a beat since then.&#x201D;

[/Quote]No chance he wins. Both him and Upstart were completely gassed after the race. And the time was pretty much average and it was a two horse race.... I&#x27;d say best case scenario he finishes 3rd or 4th but his lack of experience will doom him....

Well,how many of these 3 yr olds besides the uae derby winnerhave run 11/4 miles. We dont know. To say he cant run that distance as opposed to others is foolish.

I stand corrected.I thought his performance was visually impressive which it was.However@DerbyContenders for uniformity. @DerbyContenders calculates Materiality&#x27;s final eighth-mile in 13.7 seconds, his final three-eighths in 39.8. Upstart was 13.8 and 40.That doesnt mean either of these cant improve.Hope you chime in a little more as the weekend draws near.

Materiality received a 110 Beyer for the Fla Derby, I don't see how he improves on that number in the Derby. I'm definitely expecting a big step back from that.

Doesn't mean he can't win California Chrome took a big step back in terms of Beyers and still won the Derby easy.

As Mike said the lack of experience is hard to overlook, Pletchers lack of success in the Derby is also hard to overlook. Obviously it's a hard thing to win the Derby but his horses typically don't even have a good showing

Not comparing him to Big Brown,but horse's like him have done well without having more then 4 races or being unraced as a 2 yr old.

Not proclaiming him the favorite or anything.

Just trying to see who can run that last 1/8th of a mile without to much difficulty .

I think Mubtaahij and American Pharoah will split from the group. My underdogs are Dortmund and International Star. Texas Red would be my last choice. CARPE Diem looks good too,but got beaten to Texas Red by 7-8 lengths.

I meant Dortmund would be my underdog. It run very good races, but all of them were very close.  I though texas red would go for derby and would have a good shot at it.

UGH![/Quote]Again I couldn&#x27;t agree with you more, i don&#x27;t know if any cheap speed will be there . But so much front running style horses i think a fast pace will happen. Dortmund and AP want the lead and they&#x27;ll be pressed by horses like Carpe Diem,Firing Line, Materiality, Upstart, Stanford.I&#x27;m looking at midpackers right now International Star, Prospect Park, and I&#x27;m really looking forward to Madefromlucky in Ark Derby to see if takes a step forward off his Rebel race.
