In December jockeys Trevor McCarthy and Katie Davis got married and decided to move their tack from Maryland to NY. They then learned of this NY racing rule...
"All horses ridden or trained by a spouse, parent or member of a jockey's household shall be coupled in the betting with any horse ridden by such jockey."
This can't help the business of either jock as trainers/owners may be hesitant to name them to ride if they have to share the purse with another owner. This also limits their chances of being named as a replacement jockey if their spouse is already in the race.
Wouldn't be surprised if one or both move their tack elsewhere in order to make a living.
