One For Friday @ Gulfstream

My girl trainer Georgina Baxter has a filly who won in hand in her 1st race @ Tampa Bay in late April.

She runs again Friday in race 4 and is # 2 R Calli Kim ML is 7/2. I don't think the owners knew how good this one was since they had her in relatively cheap 16k claimer & could have lost her in Tampa. Now she moves up in company to a 35k claimer.

If you watch the replay of her only race, you'll see she made a big move, won by 6 and was hand ridden the last furlong. She could have won by much more but bug boy Trejos didn't over use her & never really asked her to run. She did it all on her own.

She's stretching out to a mile & they are moving her to turf which is a surprise to me & makes me think maybe she's even better on the grass.

We have a 40% chance of rain Friday so we'll have to see if the race comes off the turf.

Another factor to like this play is that Trainer Baxter wins at a 24% rate going dirt to turf.

She started a little rank going into the 1st term but jockey Trejos didn't panic. He's strong a kid & has won 4 of the 5 races today.

He got her to calm down and sat 3rd while the #2 was trying to steal it on the lead. Then the chalk #8 made his move & Trejos tapped R Calli Girl twice with the whip & she took off gobbling up the turf to win by about 2 or 3 going away. She loved the extra distance & looks like she can go longer than a mile. I'm glad she didn't get claimed for 35K. Wheeling her in the doubles & exacta along with a win/place play added to the kitty.

She paid $10.40/$4.20

The early double 6-1 paid $85.20; the 1-3 double paid $34. The 3 scratches in the 5th race hurt the double payoff.

The exacta 1-8 paid $30.60 because #8 was the chalk.
