Will this year's version of the Lewis be another Baffert-fest with his #1 Let's Meet in Rio and #5 Mor Spirit vying for a win?
Ten points toward the Derby goes to the winner with 17 points in total offered the finishers.
A contentious race for sure, undefeated #2 I Will Score for Hollendorfer will contend with the son of Roman Ruler punching it out at the end with the two Baffert's and Dressed in Hermes. He's 5-2 on the ML with likely fave Mor Spirit at 8-5.
There are a few other talented ones here, including the under achieving offspring of Uncle Mo, #4 Laoban (5/0-0-2), who appears to me to be in huge need for blinkers.
He ran a decent third in the Sham just behind Let's Meet in Rio. If trainer Guilot has this kid's head on straight and the also under achieving jock Tyler Baze can get him right, we could see a big day and a nice piece.
Making his 3-year old debut and the sleeper for me is the solid and slightly under the radar #3 Dressed in Hermes. Any time I see a horse out of Japan's Hat Trick (Sunday Silence), I sit up and take notice. This guy has won a stakes, the G3 DeMille, and finished a very nice 5th (4-1/2 behind) in the BC Juve Turf
Intriguing is #6, Path of David, 2 for 2 since going to the Mulhall barn.. Keep an eye as he is heading toward his peak, but maybe not today.
#5 Mor Spirit's daddy was a great 3-year old....Eskendereya. He should be there in spades at the finish, but it won't be an easy task.
I see a fight to the finish with 3 or 4 hitting stride near the end.
My picks:
#5 Mor Spirit......It's taken me years to do, but I've learned to put m pride in my pocket and play with chalk when it handicaps right.
#3 Dressed in Hermes.....let's see if class drips today.
#2 I Will Score....The only reason I am holding him back is his lack of stakes experience, but that will change today.
#1 Let's Meet in Rio.....Baffert hiding him in the weeds? If he wins, we'll know the answer.
# 5 Mor Spirit ...$25 win
$15 exacta key: 5/2,3
$6 exacta straight: 5-1
$8 exacta wheel: 2,3/5
GOOD LUCK!
