I don&#x27;t know the rules word for word like I do in other sports, nor have the experience of seeing hundreds of inquiries and decisions...Maximum Security definitely impeded the 1 and in turn the 18 which I understand is worthy of a DQ by the rules.Philosophically though, I have a problem with the fact that the 20 horse who wasn&#x27;t affected, or at least wasn&#x27;t affected to the level that would warrant a DQ, was the one who objected.  He objected because he came 2nd and thought "if I can get that horse DQ&#x27;d I win the Derby", not because he was impeded.  It&#x27;s one of the most weasel moves I can think of.What I would be interested to know is if the 20 didn&#x27;t object would the 1 or 18 have objected?

War of Will would have won the race. On replay you can see that he is in the process of gaining several feet with each stride until he is interfered with on three consecutive gallops.

Horse racing fans are lucky we are not looking at a horse eating a bullet tonight.

You pose an interesting question, and I think that the connections of the two horses that got hosed were willing to sit on their hands.  That is because even if it did cost them big, all they could get out of it is moving up from 9 to 8 or wherever they finally ended up &#x2B;1.  There was not going to be justice for them if they did in fact have the horse to finish in the money.Country House did have a lot to gain, so they took a shot.  A lot of us would make a &#x27;weasel&#x27; move for a half a million or so.But, the real weasels were the stewards, who must have seen the incident live, as I did, yet sat on their hands instead of calling a general inquiry.  They did not want to take on that burden, and instead let it be forced upon them to do their jobs. Based on the final outcome being a DQ, it was their duty to call for an inquiry, and they tried to worm their way out of it, evidently.

The whole point of the objection is it was placed by the 2nd place horse, no one else. How on earth can the stewards place the horse 17th? I have been wagering on horses for 40 years and have never seen anything like it.

Apologies if this is a naive question but why does it matter where Maximum Security gets placed after the DQ?  He&#x27;s DQ&#x27;d and whether he&#x27;s placed 8th or last he doesn&#x27;t factor into the results or for betting purposes anymore (unless you had some kind of prop for top 10 finish or something I guess).

Couldnt agree with you more. The stewards got this right. Also if the one horse doesnt pull up, there would have been a major accident with at least 10-12 horses involved. Some people just dont know the racing rules. Jockeys must have control of their horses at all times and cant impede the paths of other horses. Pretty simple rules, which max security broke. Max security jockey even said so
