The most intriguing horse for me in this race is Gun Runner.
Even though he won Risen Star,I think I liked Mo tom finishing 3rd a
little better.
He seemed to tire a little while holding off the long shot.
Now he extends.
Not saying he cant .Has the stamina, Candy ride and Giant causeway on dam side. Asmussen is one of the best

I do see no Risen Star winner has ever won the Derby .
Doesnt mean much I know. Just throwing it out there.

Think this will be a great race with a number of horses to watch.

IMO, GPC towers over this field and should win this race. If not then he seems to be a 1 turn horse

I see it exactly the same way, but I don't have a great read on this crop of 3yo's yet. I thought Brody's Cause was in a good spot in the TB Derby, and he didn't run a jump.

Ya know Soon i was a big Brodys Cause fan, had him in the Keen Futurity. I gotta say i think Romans does a lousy a job getting 3yr olds ready for the Derby, and big races in general. Cherry Wine also ran poor last week and then after the race he says " he ran a sneaky good race". NO HE DID NOT. 

 Let's be honest Keen Ice won the Travers because Frosted put the heat on AP. Keen Ice likely will never win another big stakes race again I'm fully expecting his Dubai Classic to be a disaster.

Pretty much what im saying is I won't be backing an Romans trained 3yo come the first Saturday in May

Anyone look at the # 3 Battery.

Castelanno/Pletcher ml 10-1 has an interesting resume leading up
to this race.
Graded best at this distance while moving up in class.
Last race stretched out to 1 1/8 after racing 1 1/16 exclusively.  Came on strong with 4 wide move in 75000 allowance to win by 2 lengths.
 Big jump but could be my upsetter. Thoughts

I think Battery has a shot Vet.
But he will need to step up his speed figures dramatically and when Pletcher ships to tracks like FG I'm always a little skeptical.

Seems this K.D may have a few potential favorites.

I think Battery has a big shot & glad Pletcher shipped him to the Fairgrounds. It's his only entry on the card & the extra half furlong should be no problem for him. I think Mo Tom will also benefit from the extra distance.

Pletcher ships to where the cash is & tomorrow it's in Louisiana. Last week it was at Sunland in New Mexico. He won over 200k with a win & a second. What's that saying...Leave out Pletcher leave on a stretcher....

I've left out Pletcher on plenty a 1st Saturday in May!
I don't dislike Battery and his pace numbers are up to par for this spot. However if Pletcher had true confidence in him he'd be at GP, AQU, KEE. That's all I'm saying.
