Tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 25) is opening day at Oak Lawn featuring Derby prep race, The Smarty Jones. Lest we forget the importance of this race in the early going of the prep season, we're reminded that past winners include notables Will Take Charge, Flat Out, Uncontested and Caleb's Posse, during its 10 years since its inaugural run in 2008.
Worth $150,000, the Jones offers 17 points toward the Derby for the first four finishers (10-4-2-1).
Gray Attempt, trained by Jinks Fires, is the 5-2 ML fave. The colt is 2 of 3 career, including a win in the Sugar Bowl Stakes at Fair Grounds.
