The New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (NYTHA) and the Jockeys’ Guild agreed to a new scale of mount fees for jockeys who ride at NYRA tracks which will take effect February 1, 2025.Under the new fee agreement, jockeys will receive a minimum of a $125 losing mount fee for races at all NYRA racetracks as well as a $500 minimum fee in races with purses of $1 million or more. This scale also includes a 4 place incentive.
Of course top jockeys make much more but this is a move in the right direction. Currently jockeys receive 10% of the gross winning purse for any race & 5% for running 2nd or 3rd.
Also, after listening to Belinda Stronach, owner of Gulfstream, speaking on the future of racing in South Florida she painted a very gloomy picture. She has an agreement with the Horse Racing Organization to continue racing until 2028 but after that, she made it clear there were plans to redevelop the property. She wants to expand the casino & build high priced new housing on the property which is about a mile from the ocean & worth over a billion bucks.
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay Downs is happy to hear that news which may prompt them to race all year long there & the owners of Hialeah are also considering reopening their track for thoroughbred racing again. They held a brief quarter horse racing meet last year.

Rarely play Delta Downs but found one I like tomorrow in the 8th race
#8 Hay Jude got a horrendous ride from the jockey Morales. Even with all the traffic this colt missed winning by a neck ending up 3rd as the chalk. There's a change tomorrow.
Tim Thornton gets the ride & he's winning @ 30 % for an owner in Maggi Moss who wins @ 29% & trainer in Tom Amoss who wins @ 17%. If your not familiar with Maggi Moss, she's won over 55 million in purses in her career.
He'll have to beat Asmussen's #1 Viola Magic & I think he should.
I'll throw a few bucks on him.
