UNHAPPY WITH Derby payouts

Question

every year i throw a couple hundred on the derby so this year I play some long shots to win and some exactas boxes 3 at a time for $6 so I had the 3 to win as soon as the race was over i looked at the odds on the 3 which were 40-1 so i thought $80 was good for win but by the time the race was official the odds were 39-1 & paid $39.22 strange so i won on the win and exacta so i lost $30 or so probably a dumb way to bet but trying to hit the big 5-8 hundred exacta but it was only $129.28 2-3-7 boxed

3 ending up going off around 16-1 to 18-1 range and the 2 was the 2nd favorite. Bunch of people had favorite 17 Fierceness and 2 Sierra Leone in exotic wagers. Thought pretty decent payouts for exacta and trifecta considering the first 3 horses were top 7 in odds.  Love playing the WPS pools in the Derby
