Friends...I've been in the UAE all week leading up to World Cup day at the fabulous Meydan Race Course. Got on the backstretch twice with my close friend Richard Dutrow this weeek and I think I got my finger on the pulse of things around here. Dubai is great and especially exciting for me because you never know who you might run into here..This is a great track, nothing like anything back home. The only negatives:
You can't bet on the races (!? thats a big negative, why anyone comes here I don't know, just to watch horses?) and this place is really clean and lacks any of the character, personality and history of the old American tracks that smell of a magical mixture of horse shit and cigar smoke..and unfortunatly TVG.com is blocked on the track Wi-Fi (I tried it) but fortunatly I can pre bet the races on TVG off site in my hotel room tonight. And I got some solid picks for the card
Race 3: The Goldalphin Mile
I like my friends horse # 10-I want Revenge. He's ready, he's fit, and he's raced better compition than the favorite #2 Conveyance, who I think will also be in the money. Dicky has the horse ready and when I gave it an apple yesterday it almost took my hand off. Big appitite means a big performance friends
Race 4 The UAE Derby
I like #1 Reem and #11 Khawlah..This race is all about getting the distance and these two can, and I prefer Reem because of experience and the horse lives at Meydan
Race #5 The Golden Shaheen
Hard to go against the consistancy of #9 Rocket Man. Hate Sprints, a bad break or miss step and it's over so I'll make a fun bet on #9 Rocket Man. I don't like The favorite #1 Kinsale King- that last race of his in San Fransico was against garbage, I don't expect him to be there at the finish so tap into all the money that will be on him in the American betting pools.
Race #6 Dubai Duty Free
# 14 Victors Cry: Best Horse in the race, clean trip wins the race
#16 Raihanna: Consistant Hitter- In the money
#7 Mindip: Might suprise
#5 Wigmore Hill: Will be there, can surely get the distance
Race #8 The Dubai World Cup
Here's your trifecta- box it
#13 Buena Vista: I was in Buena Vista last week and I think he's got a slightly better chance than the big favorite Twice Over
# 12 Twice Over: Should be in the money
#5 Gio Pointi: The old champ might win it this year, bad trip last year cost him the race and the horse is in good form- I watched him jog the other day..Very keyed up.
Trancend will get the early lead and if nobody pushes him he could possibly steal the race..but I think he'll get enough early pressure and give way in deep stretch to these horses..
