Your thoughts on CAIRO PRINCE

Question

I watched the race again today. The horse seemed troubled, maybe because he didn't grab the lead or come close to it.

He seemed to not know what to do when he got behind the leaders looking to me frustrated. Maybe he just wasn't interested, which happens on occasion.

His work pattern coming into the race was sound, so what's the excuse?

I know Kiaran said he'd be happy with finishing in the top 3 and, for all practical purposes, he did. Translated means to me that "the horse needed the race."

IF the horse is sound and wasn't bothered in the FLA Derby by any physical issues, I accept that he needed the race. If that is the case, then Cairo Prince should get high consideration to win the Kentucky Derby.

Mikey, I have seen many times where horse looks "disinterested" or maybe jockey was just tuning him up on trainers or owners orders, you never really know.  If he is sound and came out o FL Derby ok, he should still be considered major player at Churchill Downs.  But I wouldn&#x27;t take too short a price on him.  Derbies these days seem to be won more by improving horses who are peaking in early May, not those trying to regain lost form.

HOWZ---I think you&#x27;re right. &#xD;&#xA;However, you know as well as I do that the $2 Derby Day bettors don&#x27;t know what those of us who follow know, so they&#x27;ll play chalk galore . That, coupled with, say, California Chrome coming in off a win in the SA Derby, or the new &#x27;flavor of the day, Constitution getting Pletcher related hype,and I think we&#x27;ll get 5-1 or better on CP.&#xD;&#xA;What do you think about my theory?

To me it appeared the horse flattened out right after he attempted to pass A-rod Mike.

Am I wrong or didnt there camp state this would be his last race before the Derby.

Now with only 24 points it appears they may have to race again.

Otherwise he could be a bubble horse.

CP will be lucky to see the starting gate May 3rd, not that ge deserves to!! Kiaran treated him like a superstar after he won the holy bull, what a joke! 5-1? Why would you even consider this horse in the derby??? He ran 4th in a field of 4 good horses and he now has another 35 day lay-off following a 60 day lay off. Forget CP his derby hopes are long gone....... and u can thank his connections for that

Your aware the 2 horses to win the Derby off a 4th place prep in recent history were both 50-1!?!?  And your willing to take 5-1?

Hey Guys,Hope all is well.  I doubt he&#x27;ll be 5-1 if he makes the race.  Orb was 5-1, and I think we&#x27;ll get a similar type of field where the betting was all over the page.   If this weekend blows up, which I&#x27;m convinced it will, they&#x27;ll be clueless who to make the favorite on May 3rd. As far as CP in the FL Derby goes, I  liked his mid-race move and forgive the hanging in the lane, because you just can&#x27;t close down the outside at GP. He deserves another chance for sure.Looking forward to the dissecting the preps with everyone for the next 33 days.HB.

Real disappointed with the way Cairo Prince ran. My thoughts are on the Derby. Prince has 24 points,( 16th place) and there are 4 major preps to be run over the next 2 weeks. I don&#x27;t see him making the field. Kiaran set a plan for CP to run in the Florida derby, then the kentucky derby. Does he now find another race for him? If so how will he be set up for derby? If he does not run, I don&#x27;t see him making the field. It&#x27;s seems to me that 3 year olds are running a lot less leading up to the Derby-less margin for error. Again I am thinking Kentucky Derby, and this will be the last time I will spend thinking about Prince until late summer.

AGREE!&#xD;&#xA;Let&#x27;s assume he wants to get into the Derby....then you are looking at two potentially grueling races on a two week layoff:  the Blue Grass and Ark. Derby.&#xD;&#xA; Of course, who knows if Kiaran has been setting him up for the Preakness all along? &#xD;&#xA;Baltimore in May anyone?

Hey guysWas that an awful betting race or what.With the favorite out the $1 tri still paid squat.Granted it was  1st [3-1], and 2nd [7-2] and whatever a-rod was but Holy schnikey.I think the Derby at this point is wide open unless you still love those west coast [pretenders]no,not pretenders I mean California Chrome. But I have a horse that may go off at decent odds that I like pretty much.Some will say he doesnt have the pedigree for 10 panels but Ring Weekend really looked good winning The Tampa Bay Derby.Always a favorite prep of mine - love that sandy surface.Granted not the toughest field this time around, but the son of Tapit made it look easy, didnt he?Anyway thats my rant.

Let&#x27;s see if California Chrome can beat Chitu and a few of the other decent west coasters. &#xD;&#xA;I was thinking after the Rebel that the KY. Derby winner just might come out of the Arkansas Derby.

AB--Yessir!.....might be the best of all the prep races...even better than the Wood, which, I suspect, will likely have Uncle Sigh and Samraat and Harpoon.

I wonder if Baffert would have the stones to bring one of his to the Wood like he did with Bob and John and a few others?

Mike I watched the race again. The horse ran fine and did not lose by that much, but I agree the horse did not respond to the whip. This horse IMO has a great future when he feels like running. I would love to be that fly on the wall when he is stabled. Would like to see his attitude. Is he mean, have a goat, horny.....we all know some horses are temperamental and maybe a jockey switch could help. I think the horse can go the distance and would be hard to leave off the tri&#x27;s, IF he gets in.
