Hi All, Freed up a portion of my IRA to buy some apple stock. I have a well balanced portfolio of stock and bond mutual funds, domestic as well as international as well as a reit fund. Anyway I really do like apple (innovative, artsy, very popular, cultish even), but what got me more interested is after they're making a hard play in Asia recently for market share. I see apple doubling in a year and a half. Any thoughts either way here?

Yes DR you are spot on imo...hard to believe a company this big remains as nimble/flexible as a company 100 times smaller..Asia was suppossed to be a struggle but is shaping up quite the opposite..nice dividend to if memory is correct
One could argue its also the best defensive stock in the market so its win/win for long term
Nothing bad to say about arguably the greatest company ever!!

China and India are a huge hurdle, along with stagnating innovation. I am skeptical, but I would definitely wait for a better price.
Penetration in China is way above expectations,,India Im not to worried about in 18-24 month horizon....Stagnating is to strong a word imo maybe tapered from a few years ago but they will deliver blockbusters for the next decade at least

This stock is up 20 % since IPhone 6 release. Just play it till the next quarter earnings come out in February. They will blowout earnings as expected. If you upgraded or inquired about upgrading your iPhone you know how long it took to get your iPhone. They are still aggressively buying back stock. Short term it is a buy to make another 20%... Long term it's all about innovation don't know if they can sustaint the growth. I think Iwatch will be a flop

Google, Facebook, and samsung are going to eat their lunch on "wearables". There is no way for Apple to be on the bleeding edge of design when they are already resorting to copy samsung's PHablets, and it was embarrassing to watch in the tech community as the iphone 6 ended up being an exact design rip off of a 2010 samsung release.

Rick, You make a valid point indeed. The thing is at this point apple could turn into a copy machine and it kind wouldnt matter; they have a cultish following of loyal brainless masses of people who will just keep buying their products $$$$$ Now the iwatch does concern me a bit. If however apple iwatch is successful this stock will go ballistic...hmmm???

Apple does have a cultish following and they'll be happy to replace their Apple products every two years, but eventually a lot of people will be happy to have a cheaper phone that does everything they need. There is a limit to what phones can do.
Apple was fortunate Microsoft sh=t the bed with their last few versions of Windows, because a lot of people need a computer, and if you have an Apple laptop you probably will get an iPhone and iPad as well, and Linux is for nerds.

Thorpe; Point taken. My real play on apple has nothing to do with the iphone, air, iwatch, etc. is the usa But what they're working on in China and most recently India. They are targeting those countries very aggressively most recently for market share, (China has nearly 1 million PDA users apple from just one telecom company apple is working on). This is what drove my decision to buy apple.

How are they innovative? Changing from a white color iphone case to pink is not something i would call innovative.

You mean like the "rounded corner" and "slide to unlock" patents? LOL.
Innovative is software...let's see, what software are you talking about? You know their OS is based off of FreeBSD, which is open source, right? They basically took the open source OS, color is pink and blue and told the public that they invented (innovated) 1 million new features lol

I agree with you.. and have said the innovation of the company died when Steve Jobs died. The company is so big now that they need to continue hitting home runs to move the needle on Year over Year comparisons. Offering different colors like you said are tricks that are just buying them time to come up with the new innovative product . What will it be ? I don't know, but I would not be a buyer of their stock.

wearables-some guy mentioned Google? They just went back to the drawing board...this market will explode-why?
Imagine picking up emails, texts on your wrist and selecting the urgent ones without having to get your phone out of your pocket, trying to drive, etc...it's a game changer...
Apple Pay-Starwoods Hotels will soon allow you to check in via it...how does that sound?

It is convenient, but it is not going to be for everyone. It is going to be too nerdy for a lot of people, too bulky a watch for a lot of people, and if you already wear an expensive watch then you probably don't want to switch to a $300 watch.

wearables are (will be) overblown, and what is the price point for one of these wearables ? It will be a fraction the price of an iPhone... and they will sell a fraction of these compared to iPhones.
So , as I stated earlier, don't count on this being a product that will move the needle much for Apple.
