Question

Franklin Templeton launched a new mutual fund focusing mainly on India.  Think it launched on 1/31/08.  Couldn&#x27;t find a ticker symbol on their site.Any thoughts on this?appreciate it

yeah...saw that page....didn&#x27;t see a ticker symbol yet....was wondering how it was doing since its inceptionI would probably be using as a C-share though

They might not be accepting new funds. I would give Franklin a call and see what the deal is.

I looked everywhere with no luck myself.

If it were me and I wanted India, it wouldnt be this way, rather through an ETF..

There are quite a few India ETF funds, here is one that is quite new-

ETFs are "exchange traded funds" which are a mutual fund like asset that trades in the open market..so you can buy and sell during the day. The expense ratios are lower USUALLY if you have two similar assets, one being a mutual fund and one being an ETF.

If I had a choice between a mutual fund and an ETF, if the holdings and performance were the same, the ETF is a no-brainer..

With an ETF you just pay a stock comission, not a load fee, you can buy or sell any time versus at end of day and there arent restrictions to selling that many funds have (holding periods).

Try this..go to yahoo finance and type in the symbol field India and you will see several ETF funds list on the drop down box..try bringing a few up, research them and see if you like what you see..

you can buy an ETF in any investment vehicle...the only thing you cant do in an IRA is anything on margin (short, write naked calls)

What you WANT to do is try and find that fund you like, see what their holdings are and see if you can find a SIMILAR ETF that mirrors or close to mirrors that mutual fund.

A fund intends to diversify risk, so it is similar to an ETF that NEITHER will hold the risk or reap the rewards that an individual stock will.

An ETF in most cases is just an open traded mutual fund..similarly there are closed trading mutual funds out there (not sure about India funds since there are so few available).

An ETF for this purpose is not tied to an index, unless it states that it is..so you need to research what the ETF is made of, if it is an India indexed fund or if it is sector specific etc.
