(ITMN), the company said Tuesday. The FDA wants another clinical trial of the drug, also known generically as pirfenidone, InterMune said. The product was developed to treat a lung condition known as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which is caused when tissue in the lungs becomes thick and scarred. InterMune plunged 81% to $8.46 in after-market trading, after more than tripling since early March, when it traded below $15. It was halted earlier Tuesday at $45.44. InterMune plans to meet with the FDA as soon as possible to "understand their points of view" in the next 60 to 90 days, the company said on a conference call Tuesday.
