How do u think luxury watches hold value over time as compared to the market. (good stuff like, Rolex, Chopard, Patek Phillipe, Audemars, Piaget, IWC & others)

I dont think they are smart investments but they are very nice to own.

Rolex is nicer 2 me. But for some reason I would prefer a Cartier for a female...........

They run in the same league. Cartier can go from like 5k-100k also....

Rolex's are so sleazy and cheezy. Buy yourself something with class. My dad had a Rolex but ended up hating it because of the attention it got. Trust me there are alot nicer watches out there.

Thats the thing I thing most people probaly dont know what a nice watch is and have never heard of the brands listed in the first post.

I dont think the average person knows that Patek Philippe can run up to a million bucks. But then again i dont think the average person know what a Philippe is. It just depends who you surround yourself with.

But why would you want to own a brand just to impress others. It should be about making yourself happy

i don't think it's a good investment.. people don't need own watches in bad times.. although if it was made of pure gold it might be worth something.. but don't forget you'll lose some money because of the costs of the brand and the production

Who wears a watch anymore is the real question?  I don't think I have worn a watch for over 10 years at least. But, when I did, I like Tags.

Yeah Patek has been a great investment. They have been a great investment over the last 5 -6 years especially, with the rise of commodities, gold. When gold doubled so did the value of many of their watches.

Rolex is what every idiot with money and no clue buys. They appraise well but always let me know that the person wearing it probably knows shit about watches &/or has no taste.

The other brands you mentioned I don't care for except IWC. They make a couple I like but I wouldn't own them or any watch other than Patek as an investment.

Personally, when I get my $$ right, I have my eye on this A Lange Sohgne for $90,000 that is on the first page of my latest Robb Report issue. Platinum with ebony alligator strap. YES SIR!!!!!!

However, in order to purchase this in good conscience, I need to win at least 600k  ((LOL))..........

Nothing personal, but the age of austerity is here at the moment.  Just so you know, a watch is for telling time and serves little value otherwise.  If you want an investment, put money in equities or some asset class that you believe is currently undervalued.  If you are making a bet on the appreciation of valuable metals, just invest in those metals, or better yet invest in the companies that mine and produce those metals.  If for some reason you think the economy implodes and stocks will crash, do you really think a fancy watch will keep its value.  If worse case scenario happens, will someone really care what name is on the piece of metal that tells them where the sun is in relation to the earth?  Best case scenario your watch underperforms stocks, worst case scenario your watch is a fancy target for looters... either way I think you can do better.

As long as there are inidividuals who are so wealthy that (THEY ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THE ECONOMY AT LARGE) then there will always be a market for PREMIUM/EXCLUSIVE Valuables. jewelels, artwork, rare bottles of champagne. etc..

rolex's don't automaticly hold value. Forget about just walking in a jewlery store, you get shit. So be careful I was just in vegas and mine is about 15yrs old and they wouldn't give me a third of what it was worth.

Rome1, were you down trying to cover your loses? Good luck next time in vegas. My watch opinion is, get what makes you happy, but keep in mind the cost if you have other bills to pay.
