As I watch most stocks being destroyed I've come up with a fun idea. Maybe stupid maybe not. What I want to do is put $1,000 in 10-15 beat up POS stocks take the certs and put them in a safety deposit box. I'm making a short list and I know a lot of you will say they are going under and I believe most will but I only need 2-3 to make it. Suggestions on your favorite POS PLEASE! Or atleast help me narrow down :) Short List: PNX, BAC,XL,MTW,LVS,HIG,AKS,RUTH,RT,GE,CPSL, SUTR,TTM,EXM,DRYS,HTE

I know you don't have a crystal ball but which are your favorites? I was thinking Boyd gaming or maybe I just buy MGM, LVS and BYD.
Good point on FNM/FRE/HOV/AIG you figure I can get 2-3k shares of each. If one survives I make out well. I'm looking at this like gambling on a bunch on ML dogs and heck I lost more last NFL season than I'm planning to invest. Thanks and I wish I followed you MONTHS ago when you said you were all cash because I'd have a lot more dry powder.

heres an idea if you are so certain so many of these companies are "going under" why dont you learn what a short position is
I'm not certain; nor did I say I was that's why I wantto buy. I'm gonna short a stock @.25-$1.00 are you serious? I use FAZ, DXD, DTO etc to short and only in and out. The easy money on these shorts has already been made. If I short all these and theyall go BK butt one goesto $10 I'm screwed. I'm gonna learn what a short positions is after I've made a living off the market for 12 years. If I'm shorting anything it's the 3X short funds themselves with call options to cover. Why don't you learn how to read and get a life jerkoff

I was thinking Boyd gaming or maybe I just buy MGM, LVS and BYD.
on our local weekly PBS yap show yesterday (which comes on just after McLaughlin's weekly screech) there was a big discussion about the local casinos. consensus was that BYD was in the best financial shape of the beat down companies. MGM will probably have to sell some properties or some how raise cash to survive and has WAY too much exposure to the Las Vegas market. LVS obviously also hurting (made a low of 1.58 early friday ) BUT may be in better shape than MGM because of they are more diversified away from Vegas with their far east operations and will open in Bethlehem, Pa in May which hopefully will help cash flow.
the interesting speculation was that a relatively solid operator like Steve WYNN, who sold his Mirage ops to MGM AT the TOP, may buy back the Bellagio although I think that would dilute his Wynn and new Encore operations.
I would also keep an eye on IGT as they hit 7.15 friday which was just pennies above their November low of 7.03. IF and WHEN gaming recovers both domestic AND world wide, they will probably the the FIRST stock to see the effect. their finger is in EVERY casino pie.
like your DRYS idea too. THAT stock can turn at ANY time on ANY good news and, with 14% short, bite the bears right in the butt. I trade my small position and am hoping it breaks below $3 again.

Thanks I added your suggestions and bought C,HOV,LVS and MGM. Also bought MTW, BYD, PNX, HIG, DRYS, YRCW, URE, UYG, FAS,INZ about a thousand bucks in each. Of course now I'm being greedy and mad I didn't buy more instead of being happy I made 40-50% in a few days. My plan is to sell half IF any stock doubles and then take certs and ride my free shares indefinetly.

can't comment on the first two but LVS has still been acting shaky. dipped back to 1.40 early today before coming on in the afternoon to make a intraday high of 1.88 before closing @ 1.77. gotta get through 2 for me to be convinced BUT if it DOES, it could be off to the races for a nice percentage gain. somewhat hoping today could be a reversal BUT I won't hold my breath.
MGM looking much better back above 3 BUT has somewhat stalled in that low 3 area and could still retest below 2 esp on another general market selloff. really needs to get thru that mid 3 area.
BYD has really been the star the last few sessions. of the non WYNN "penny play" stocks, local Las Vegas gaming "anal"ysts are touting them as having the best cash position.
