Went to a reding of the will!

Went because a lawyer requested my presence for a guy who passed away in our town. In the reading of the will I was left 12,000.00. Can't even say why but always had his back but have not seen him in years.The immediate family just stared at me and they were just as puzzled. Has this ever happened to anyone?  Not a rich guy by any means but debt free so probably better than most. Now I am wondering what the hell to do with it. 62, good health and happy with my life. Live on 3,600 a month and save10% of that. Any suggestions?

Put it away for some time you might need a little extra in the future.

Do they actually do a "reading of the will" in Canada?  I thought that was pure Hollywood fiction.

Think of the guy who left you the cash.  What would he want you to do with it.  Do that.

Do something you wouldn't have normally done with your cash.

Saw the lawyer at a golf rap up meeting for our club last night so I asked him about the "reading of the will". He said if they know you are in a will they ask you to attend, hence why he called me. His Family and me! Weird because since last week still can't figure why he singled me out for the 12G's. Best I can come up with was advice on a hotel he was thinking of buying and my family has always been in the biz. In Canada it is tax free loot also! Just sayin. Depeche, will put on my thinking cap regarding your advice.

Came home today and the cheque was in the mail. $11999.56 and i was expecting 12G"s{lol}. stared at it for a bit and wondered where the .46 cents went then walked downtown and slid 10G"s into savings and the rest into my chequeing account. Will take a few days as i still am a bit wierded out about this. will have to come up with something that will make the guys memory not fade away, if your reading this have a great holiday and the best to one and all in the new year

You touched him in a good way some time in the past... likely about the same time he was preparing his will.

Freaking relax, smile and have some fun with it.  I think you should lay 10K on MSU +4.5 over Stanford.

Haha! Came up what I think is a great idea. There was one hole on my golf course he played really well. Dogleg right par 5 he would eagle about 3 or 4 times a year. A couple of trees came down this past fall due to the dreaded Ash borer! At the 220 yd marker. Called the superintendent and asked if I could replace one of the trees and place a plaque there with his name on it and he said yes. That way when I bogey the hole because a cant hit a draw, because I'm left handed(lol) I can tip my cap and say hello! This should work out. What do you think boys?

I get it... you did not expect this money, and you feel you need to do something "worthy" rather than just treat it as your money.  I guess you feel the need to honor his life.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I think your idea sucks!  If I were leaving you 12K in my will I would be so pissed if you turned around and spent it on some plaque or any other shrine to me.  I would want you to SPEND IT, or enjoy it somehow.  Use it as you would your own money.

Follwup time!! Hole dug yesterday and tree dropped in today. Looks great and they went with a post and plaque right beside it and i will say it looks great.Opening day Derby weekend so hoping everyone likes it. With that out of the way, SportsFan9698 16 guys headed to Lexington on the 17th to 22nd  of May to play 5 good looking coures!!!!! University of Kentucky both courses and 3 others. If any of you guys know anything about what to take in it would be much appreciated. Started a thread in the Golf forum titled Kentucky golf so feel free to add something!!!! Fuk of a winter EH boys!!!
