Leaders in contest almost never beat pinny closing line

I posted this topic in MLB forum too.  Shouldn't these leaders who have large sample sizes and impressive win records be beating the pinny closing line a good proportion of the time?  I've been tracking their bets and they almost never do...confused:(

Has any study been done to see which ends up being closer to the actual result, opening line or final line?
