The Hilton is the best book in Vegas for gamblers. It's as close to online as you can get in town. As for watching, Caesar's Palace and MGM Grand are good for atmosphere. The crowds there are usually into the games and it makes for a good time (providing you win your bets of course). Fremont St is allright at nights too if you're looking for a change of pace.
Depending on how long your trip is, I would recommend taking time to cruise both sides of the strip from the south end at Mandalay Bay up to the Wynn to find out what environment you like the best. You will be exhausted and have chapped inner thighs when you're done, but to me it's definitely worth the effort to check each one out. There's not much difference between all the casino floors, but certain resorts tend to attract a different kind of crowd. The Riviera, Sahara, Stratosphere, and Circus Circus are not worth the extra walking and forget about the Palms too, their book is amateur in my opinion and the casino feels like you're at a TRL taping.
If you're lookin for a chill, low key spot, check out Ellis Island on Koval Lane just south of Flamingo Rd behind Paris and Bally's. They have their own microbrewery which will only set you back $1.50 for a 16 oz. draft and the pizza is good and cheap. Their karaoke is often hilarious as well

Vegas sucks now for comps. Grind it out is right.

I beg to differ Tatomka. Vegas does not suck for comps. I've been going to Vegas for 10+ years and have NEVER paid for a suite or any meals. The key is to play their table games blackjack, craps, 3 card poker, etc... for a few hours. I stay at the Venetian now days and love it. Casino hosts are great and the atmosphere is awesome. Harrahs is also a fun place with easy comps.

nevadaeasy, you have to agree though that Vegas ain't what it once was in terms of comps. I've spent my share of all night blackjack sessions at the Luxor and Rio, and while it is still an incredibly unique atmosphere and a great time, the comps just aren't the same as say 5 years ago. It may have something to do with my behavior after 6 hours of Red Bull and Jack cocktails, but still- throw me a fricken bone here.
